Muslim community protests woman's arrest (Greensboro, NC)

(GREENSBORO) - Greensboro's Muslim community wants an apology from a police officer who they say broke the shoulder of a 68-year-old Egyptian-American woman.

Afaf Saudi, who's accused of resisting police officers and assaulting an employee of a Wal-Mart store on Saturday, also suffered a broken rib, a mild heart attack and cuts and bruises on her wrists. She remains in Moses Cone Hospital awaiting shoulder surgery.

Wajeh Muhammad, treasurer of the Islamic Center of the Triad, wants the city to pay for the woman's medical bills and for the officer responsible to issue an apology in a language she can understand. Saudi, a naturalized citizen who has lived in America for 12 years, doesn't speak English.

A police department spokesman says initial reports show the officer did nothing improper.

Meanwhile, Saudi's son says his mother is afraid to eat hospital food because she's worried she'll be poisoned.

True. Back in the old days it was the "gypsies" who did this kind of thing.

This is in my update in post #87.

When Saudi refused to leave, employees called police. By that time Saudi wasn't speaking English despite earlier communications.

Two store employees asked her to leave in Arabic and French.

Looks like some 'selective' English has been learned. Unless you were locked up somewhere and only had contact with other Muslims I would think it would be almost impossible to NOT learn at least some English after 12 years.

That's probably pretty possible for many Muslim women --- but it doesn't appear to be the case here --- she's just a scam artist who should be packed up and sent home. She's not good for this country in any way at all.

They still do sometimes. A store where I once was in had the security guard warn all the cashiers to be on the look out for gypsies and to call security immediately if they saw any. Some band of gypsies had been going around to malls --- two of the women would start a fake fight between themselves so the cashiers would leave their stations to see what was going on -- then the others would rob the cash registers. They worked so fast they would manage to get out of the stores and the women would quit fighting and leave separately.

If she doesn't speak English, how can she shop by herself, check out, make change.

I don't speak Japanese but I shopped, went to the check out, and made change while I was in Tokyo. You don't need to know the language to do these things, you just need to be able to count.

she was lying on the floor and most likely kicked up at the employee, probably while he was trying to pull her upright.

Thanks for the update. I'd forgotten about this as well.

I have to say it turned out pretty much the way I expected it to. I'm glad the police officers were cleared and I hope the community remembers this incident. I'm sure something similar will happen again.

Thanks for the ping! Reading the whole article, I was left with the impression they still have the kid-gloves on. I truly wish (and still hope) they have the balls to really throw the book at her and set an example. This type of scamming is unacceptable even when committed by a muslim.

Then deport her. A 12 year citizen without a fundamental grasp of English is a failure in the naturalization process and should be dealt with as such.

Sorry about posting to my self, but I re-read my post #110 and noticed that I had forgotten the <sarcasm> tag around "even when committed by a muslim". My bad and dutifully corrected.

Put the subhuman filth in prison; the "situation" is then over.

Just make sure he nevers says this to anyone and he should be home free. "Sorry, I am too busy to do the job." or make them pay upfront. I would tell you what they can do with their "culture" but I am a gentleman.
