The Marines are so nice they have TWO birthdays!

"The Corps' history began Nov. 10, 1775, when it was established to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War.
After success in many campaigns, the Corps was abolished at the close of the Revolutionary War for economic reasons.
On July 11, 1798, Congress ordered the creation of the Corps, named it the United States Marine Corps and directed that it be available for service under the secretary of the Navy.
The Corps celebrated its birthday on July 11 until 1921, when the date was changed to Nov. 10 to commemorate the original establishment of the Corps."

To All, Whoever does not have the stomach for this fight, let him depart. Give him his money to speed his departure since wish not to die in this man's company. Whoever lives past today and comes home safely will rouse himself every year on this day, show his neighbor his scares, and tell embellished stories of all their great feats in battle. These stories he will teach his son and from this day until the end of the world we shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for whoever has shed his blood with me shall be my brother. And those men afraid to go will think themselves lesser men as they hear of how we fought and died together. Happy Birthday and Semper Fi !

I wish the messhall "cooks" (term used loosely) when I was a Juggie between '66-'68 had at least learned some rudimentary baking skills for "The Cake"....oh well, they had canned beets and S.O.S. to think about for the next meal's main courses.
