Jim Hightower: A Nation of Cattle?

Have you been chipped, yet?

You could be soon, for the Food & Drug Administration has now cleared the way for a Florida corporation, Applied Digital Solutions, to market a tiny electronic device called VeriChip that is surgically implanted under the skin of your arm or hand.

Don't worry, says the corporation soothingly, being chipped doesn't hurt you, and it's really for your own good. For example, they say, if you have an accident, your implanted chip could contain vital medical information that could be accessed by an ambulance crew (assuming the crew has bought a hand-held, chip-reading scanner, which Applied Digital also happens to sell).

Besides, coo the corporate hawkers, being chipped is a matter of great personal convenience for you. No longer would you have to carry cumbersome ID cards to get into your workplace––you could have all the required ID stored on your chip, right inside your body. And think of the convenience of not having to fumble with credit cards! Instead, your credit numbers literally are implanted in you, so rather than running your cards through a scanner, a retailer can simply scan you. Talk about consumer progress, VeriChip turns your own body––your very own self––into a bar-coded payment system.

After all, says Applied Digital, our country has been implanting such devices in millions of cattle and pets, and it has worked beautifully, so why not humans? For you fussy libertarians who see Big Brother looming behind every scientific breakthrough like VeriChip, the company says that being implanted is voluntary, so where's the worry?

The worry, of course, is that being chipped will not stay voluntary. Corporations and government will soon insist that their employees, frequent travelers, protesters, and others be tagged for security reasons. To rebel against this effort to turn us into a nation of cattle, call the Electronic Privacy Information Center: 202-488-1140.

[Anti-chip SARCASM TORPEDO ARMED. FIRE!]

Gee, this sounds like a possible precursor to the infamous 666 of Revelation.

Let's see if has a LINUX kernel embedded.
What were those file permissions again?

People enamored with (and encumbered by) literalist interpretations of Scripture would balk at such talk.

Leave it to secularists to claim that you are merely a body.

Hightower is probably angry that this is going to mean profit for what he calls the "Bush Crime Family."

Hightower is an ultra-Left mouthpiece like Franken. Relax, Jim, if anybody is gonna get chipped, it'll be the totalitarian Left that will try to do it.

There was an article about this technology this summer complete with a family profile of nitwits that were getting chipped. They seemed of the usual RAT mold, believing in societal goodness and the good intents of our leadership - fundamental attributes of the Left, NOT the right.

before my last computer crash, I had articles about clinton making a deal with an Ireland based company that was designing chips like this.

I'm starting to look for it now in google. But I may fall asleep before I find it. It is late.

Hightower is a raving lefty and this is just his usual tinfoil angst.Anyone who takes this seriously, imagining that any GOPer would make it a law that everyone be chipped, isn't thinking.

I did post the company website in post 1. And the FDA did approve it. I'm out to lunch on any other intent.

"When the chips are down... the buffalo is empty."

heh-heh. The first major commercial deal for these chips has been with the Canadian government for the tracking of cattle in their disease control efforts. The company has delivered 20,000 with a couple hundred thousand more on order. There are four companies with ear-tag chips on the market, with Digital Angel (DOC) apparently holding an early lead.

The only significant difference between Hightower and Franken is that the former is **already** a failed radio talk-show host. Franken just hasn't burnt through all his backers' funds yet.

Matter of time only, and not much time at that.

From Revelations Chapter 13:

11Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon. 12He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men. 14Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
18This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.

So what is to stop others from recording your chip data electronically, making bogus chips and stealing your ID? At least when someone steals your wallet, you know it is gone.

But liberals like Hightower, Franken, Hillary, hollywood, democrat leaders and their liberal theologians smirk at taking any of the Bible literally.

Long, long before any liberal or non-christian began to speculate about 666 etc...Bible-believers were saying this type of thing was coming and the chip implant could be a foreshadow.

Seems a little hypocritical not to apologize to Bible-believers for their correct speculations if someone is going to use them.

Maybe people who did not take the Bible seriously before should open their eyes to what the Bible has to say about other things, like homosexuality, adultery, abortion, welfare (if a man does not work, he doesn't eat), lasciviousness, envy, covetousness, lack of modesty, law-breaking (including judicial activism which is a form of law-breaking).
