The French & Frogs vs. Louisiana Crawfish!
DU and Independent | 11/12/04 | Himself

Posted on 11/12/2004 9:11:27 AM PST by Henchman

I tried to post an excerpt from The Independent, a UK online Newspaper. The article, which related to the "rampant Louisiana crayfish" nibbling away at the French Coast ticled me. However, the excerpts from the article would not post. I was informed that there are copy right contentions with the Brit paper. The article is easily "Googled".

How did I find the article? Well, I checked out the DUmmies site. They had a link. Why is there no copyright infingment contention by the Independent against the DU?

"Yet the French happily imported the sinister seafood in the 1970s when supplies of indigenous crayfish suddenly declined..."

First Muslims, now crawdads. Will the French never learn that importing fierce, reproductive-crazy lifeforms always leads to trouble?

On a related note, I've eaten both and I can't see why anyone would pass up mud bugs in favor of frogs.

" I've eaten both and I can't see why anyone would pass up mud bugs in favor of frogs" Mud Bugs might be construed as Arabs who have left the sand dunes. I'll stick with the standard American food.

Sweet. Let's send 'em a few hundred pair of nutria, too. That should be a challenge (and inexhaustible resource) for the French chefs.

"And tonight's theme ingredient in Kitchen Stadium is..." ;-)

Send them Kudzu, if they don't already have it.

Zebra Mussels

are a mixed curse. Yes, they do tend to clog pipes, but measures can be taken to minimize that. OTOH, they seem to have contributed to the improved water quality of the Great Lakes since the 1970s.

I knew about the pipes etc. The ZEBRA mussels are also a nuisence for boaters, especially when going from one lake to anoter. My question: Are they edible?

Edible?

1) Considering what they filter out of the Lakes, I'm not sure I'd want to ... Some sources suggest that waterfowl which eat them suffer some harm from heavy metal etc. poisoning.

from the Zebra Mussel Watch FAQ:
Are zebra mussels edible?
Although zebra mussels are edible, we strongly advise you not to eat them. They accumulate contaminants as they feed, and in areas of high contaminant concentrations, zebra mussels can accumulate enough pollutants to raise concerns for human consumption.
