Gingrich Now Seeking a New Contract (with America)
The New York Sun ^ | 11/12/04 | LUIZA Ch. SAVAGE

WASHINGTON - Newt Gingrich is preparing to unfurl a new Contract with America.

The last time he did so, the ideas catapulted Republicans to a majority in the House for the first time in a half century. Now the former House speaker is plotting a way to keep conservatives in power "for a generation or more." Yet it is Democrats who are being urged to look to him for inspiration as they contemplate their future in the minority.

"A 21st Century Contract with America" is the subject of a book scheduled for release in January.

I agree. Newt's a good man, and he can do a lot for us in the position he is in now.

Piss off.

Newt's not perfect as a legislator, but he's a brilliant visionary.

And-he nailed the election on the head this past summer. He pretty much called it back in August.

After cheating on her. Ugh. So we're just supposed to "move on," let him advise the nation in "family values." Dang, the Donks must laugh at us. I hate when they have a valid reason.

Will there be a clause against adultery with the office help?

This is one of the reasons I don't want Newt back in office. However, the man's brilliant and a good behind-the-scenes guy. Use him for what he's good for. Marital morality isn't one of them. He's writing a book, not running for President for Pete's sake!

I can't wait to get his next civil war novel. After reading Gettysburg and Grant Comes East I'm dying to find out who wins the Civel War.

"I think the media instructed a lot of negativity about Newt on to the masses because they considered him dangerous to liberalism".

You sir, are correct. The media use personal attacks to destroy Newt. They ignored personal failures by Clintoon to keep him in power.

Then disgracefully, Newt was abandoned by the people who prospered from his ideas and ideals.

Basically agree. But what concerns me is the unquestioning and unconditional adulation of some. I have asked (and not been answered) what the difference is between such support for Gingrich, and the similar support of "knee-padders" for Clinton, whom at the time we excoriated for such blind worship.

These people who doubt Newt's hand in the '94 revolution obviously were not really paying attention in 1993 and 1994. As one who was a C-SPAN junkie in those days, I say Newt constantly making speeches, chairing discussions, working to get the conservative message out. At least once a week you could see him on Cable (before Fox) or hear him in Rush. He, and possibly Dick Army (and the Clintons), willed the Republican Revolution of 1994. And of course the Contract was the lightning rod which attracted the Conservative energy.

Newt Gingrich is an opportunistic fraud. He squandered his leadership role in the past; displays irrational judgment under pressure; and is totally unfit to lead ANY sanctioned movement is direct support of the GOP.

....and you're some clown in a Chat Room.

.Every time I hear him speak, he comes across as very knowledgeable, historically rooted due to his education, and highly visionary.

Agreed. Listen to him since the early 90's.

One of the most knowledgeable men on politics and it's history I have every heard.

He is a brilliant, informative and entertaining speaker.

Not saying I agree with him 100% but if he's speaking I want to hear what he's saying.

The Democrats and the MSM went after him big time because they where terrified of him.

I hate to burst your pride now that you're thinking you're so smart and all, but that's just silly. Anyone who watches Cspan already has there mind made up. The Republican Revolution in 94 had more to do with congressional redistricting after Republican gains in state legislatures and Governors in 1990. Those state gains were the result of grass roots organizing, and Newt is a big picture kind of guy.

I'm not trying to slam Newt. He was the majority leader for the time. He certainly was a factor in the 94 elections as was Rush and Newt was a fantastic whip. I agree his speeches on Cspan were inspirational and convincing and he used the medium well. He was the strategic mind behind the house banking scandal and that eroded rat voter support. I commend his efforts, but I don't believe Newt was a major factor in the 94 elections. Republicans would have won with or without Newt. Newt made it a stronger victory and took charge while Dole coasted.

Newt also made some terrible strategic and personal mistakes as Speaker. As Speaker he was a polarizing figure and contributed to the re-election of Clinton. We lost seats in 96 and 98 as a result.

Then came Dubya. Yahoo!!!!!
