Ross Mackenzie: Election Out-Takes – On Co-Conspirators, the Brush, Eating the Wounded, Etc.
The Richmond [VA] Times-Dispatch ^ | November 14, 2004 | Ross Mackenzie

Election-related quotes… .

• Former (Bush I) White House Counsel Boyden Gray, on John Kerry's concession: "It was absolutely the right thing to do, because it headed off a long nightmare of litigation, which could have cast a pall on the election, whoever was confirmed as the winner. And it would have embarrassed this country at a time when the United States is trying to spread democracy abroad."

• Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf, livid about Kerry campaign phone calls telling voters he endorsed Kerry: "[Kerry's] attempt to make up for [his] deficiencies [such as opposing the Reagan defense build-up and removing Saddam Hussein from power] by falsifying my endorsement only confirms my impression that he is not the man we need to lead our nation."

• Michael Barone, co-editor of "The Almanac of American Politics, 2004": "The [re-election] victories of Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Bush came despite the vigorous and outspoken opposition of media elites. The New York Herald in 1864, the Chicago Tribune in 1944, and The New York Times and CBS News in 2004 led the opposition to the wartime Presidents, highlighting wartime casualties, lobbing accusations of administration incompetence, and obfuscating evidence of American success. But most Americans saw through them. They understood that war is a chancy enterprise, rife with error and missteps, subject to reversals and heartbreaking tragedies. But they also understood that American success was necessary to the advance of human freedom. They knew that their Commanders-in-Chief were embarked on noble enterprises, no matter the cost in human life or the frustration of temporary setbacks."

"It's my Time photo shoot," indeed. Does anybody still read Time anywhere except in a healthcare provider's office?

There's Kerry lying about Schwarzkopf's support, and then there's George Bush :James Q. Wilson, author of "The Moral Sense" and other books: "There is no doubt that John Kerry showed great skill at embracing deeply contradictory positions, but that does not make him unusual; all politicians have mastered the art of self-contradiction. What was remarkable in this election is that one candidate, President Bush, never changed: He said what he meant and meant what he said."

"which could have cast a pall on the election, whoever was confirmed as the winner."???????????????

Are these people hoping to be taken seriously? Bush kicked Kerry's ass, despite the unending bombardment Bush endured from the MSM, Recording Industry, and Hollywood elite.

What a joke!

This is the best quote - more complete than any other "hairbrush" quote.

. . . "Newsweek," November 15: "The morning after the February 3 primaries, which vaulted Kerry into a virtually insurmountable lead [for the Democratic presidential nomination], the candidate was fuming over his missing hairbrush. He and his aides were riding in a van on the way to a Time magazine cover-photo shoot. [Aide Marvin] Nicholson had left the hairbrush behind. 'Sir, I don't have it,' he said, after rummaging in the bags. 'Marvin, f ---!' Kerry said. The press secretary, David Wade, offered his brush. 'I'm not using Wade's brush,' the long-faced Senator pouted. 'Marvin, f ---, it's my Time photo shoot!'"

My prediction: not too long from now, just as we experienced with Al Gore, somewhere along the way America is going to realize "Whew, thank GOD we didn't put that whacko in office !"

A favor, in the interest of clear speech:
don't say health care provider, say doctor
And if they kill babies:
don't say doctor who performs abortion, say ABORTIONIST!

Not at all remarkable to those who have followed Bush...

Former Democratic National Chairman Daniel Fowler: "I think we have come to an ending point in a long transition that began in 1968. During that time, the old Roosevelt Democratic majority coalition has creaked and cracked away under various kinds of racial, religious, social, and international forces, and this election was the end point in that transition. I think we live in a country that is majority Republican now." game set match
