It was announced during the second half that Tom Brokaw was in attendance at the University of Oklahoma/Nebraska game at Owen Field in Norman. The minute he was announced, you could hear loud boos from around the stadium.
Have no idea how he had the nerve to return to OU after his debacle of a speech for graduation last May. I think he received louder boos then when Nebraska came out, and even more than the penalty we got for fans throwing oranges onto the field near the end of the game.
Chalk this one up to flyover country that detests the mainstream news media. You probably will never hear this from the media except our local radio but it was hilarious. Everyone around where we sit are Bush fans and after they stopped booing, they started laughing at the reaction of everyone. Then they launched into a discussion about how biased the so-called mainstream media was in the election and how people like Brokaw should stay out of the red states. It made me really proud of the Sooner fans -- this truly is Bush Country.
One of the Nebraska football players hit a Ruffneck leading with his helmet like the Ruffneck was a tackle dummy, knocking two teeth out, and pushing him against the brick wall before the game even started. Nebraska players were out on the field and this guy went after a Ruffneck.
There were quite a few more boo's against Nebraska as the student section was already in the stands when it happened. Not to mention John Blake was there along with Bill Young (his offensive coordinator at OU).
Okay, I'm pretty sure we need a source link to your eye for this.
Seriously, your report was hilarious and I am delighted to read about the crowd reaction.
Maybe Tom'll get 'em to stop announcing his presence?
Oranges on the field! LOL
Thought you might enjoy this.
Ha! Makes me proud to be an Okie.
True. But speaking as a lifelong (and generations long family legacy) Husker fan, there are no fans we respect more than those of the Sooners. They truly are a class program, fans included.
This is not Colorado we're talking about. When Sooner fans boo, it just means they favor the other team. Not that they're about to toss beer bottles at the opposition (and we have enough experience with the other kind to tell the difference).
Oklahoma versus Nebraska is (in my obviously biased) opinion the cleanest and purest example of sportsmanship and competition on earth. Which is exactly why you see Oklahoma fans bemoaning an inferior Nebraska opponent where most other opponents would be relishing and gloating. Nebraska fans were doing the same before Bob Stoops came to Oklahoma. It just doesn't feel right when either one is an easy win.
And, despite what seems like the norm, we really do tend to root for each other when playing for the title. It's not entirely selfless. It makes us look better when we beat the other one next year. And (in normal years) that is always the main goal.
So this year ... go Sooners!
Thanks for the link. I will take your opinion on the importance with a grain of salt (according to your FR page, I see your agenda and it is greatly suspect). I did find far more information on the subject in this article...

I am not a lawyer, but this seems like a witch hunt to me. But I think tommorrow more information will come out according to the special report page.
WAR EAGLE... (and will not stoop to your level and commend LSU with their victory). Wishing OU victory over your home state is pretty low in my opinion. But such is life.

I am very surprised that an AU fan would be unaware of the probation. I am not an AU fan and I won't be pulling for them. Alabama went on probation the first time because a few AU boosters paid Gene Jelks to fabricate some stories. That got the ball rolling. That's a fact (court records) and you must have missed that one too.
Alabama is down now because UT fabricated some stories that are now being proven to be lies.
I am not sure that UT would have won the national championship in 1998 if it wasnt for Bama's probation at the time. I am not so sure AU would have been able to compete for the national championship this year if Alabama didn't lose 21 scholarships because a bunch of false allegations that are now being proven wrong.
You say that you see my agenda and it is greatly suspect. That should be rather clear to you. Do I want AU to be shut out of the Orange Bowl? Yes.
Mike Price for Coach of the Year. No one else could have accomplished what has has done in just his first year at UTEP. He got set up by some people who did not want him as the coach at Alabama. He did do a stupid thing, but Sports Illustrated is going to wind up paying Price a ton of money for their defamation of him.

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
I loved reading this!
I know you had the time of your life!
Why did attend?
The golf tournament that weekend was set up by some big Auburn boosters. Price certainly did wrong but I believe he was set up.
Drudge just discussed this on his radio show.
Do share, please.
That's hilarious. I laughed when I read it.
Thanks for the ping. Can't tell you how pleased I am, LOL.
Never been prouder of my alma mater (Univ. of Nebraska)!!! thanks for pinging me!
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! We are making the big time here in Norman. I talked to a friend of my son's tonight who was sitting next to the Husker section and they boo'd as well! Joint effort on the part of two red states.
He has to remember another item about the game -- Callahan hired John Blake and Bill Young and I know the people around me boo'd when they saw Blake -- he is not very well liked here in Norman after some of his comments not to mention the horrible three years as head coach. He may be a good defensive coach but he was a louzy head coach and Bill Young's job with our non-quarterbacks (at least that is how they looked after he got done with them) was terrible.
There was also an incident before the game when one of the Nebraska lineman headbutted a Ruffneck knocking out two teeth and sending him into the brick wall. The kid had to be carted off on a stretcher and the student section saw the whole thing. That was probably another reason for the booing from the student section. It wasn't loud and in fact, we didn't know what had happened to the Ruffneck until this morning when we read the paper. My daughter and I saw him being taken out on the stretcher with blood all over him.
Now if it was Oklahoma State, the boos were be very loud and vice versa. Nebraska I have had the greatest respect for and will be glad when you guys are back up again and the North has some good teams. I would much rather play a really good Nebraska team then the one Callahan had on the field last night. That was not Nebraska that I know.
Can I saw Roll Tide? When your fans came to Norman, they were fantastic and our fans have raved about their treatment when we visited Alabama. I have been rooting for you guys ever since. You will be back and when you are completely back Auburn will be back where they belong!
I cannot believe they are on probation and going for a National Champsionship. What happened to the NCAA -- they didn't hesitate to ban Alabama or Oklahoma (in the 80's) from post season. Why is there a different standard?
I hope you guys have the game of your lives!
I wondered if Auburn set up Mike Price and guess I got the answer on this thread.
"It was bad -- he didn't even stay for the end of graduation. President Boren is a very animated person and he sat there rigid as Brokaw launched into his attack speech -- didn't move at all. I saw Pres Boren when Rudy spoke at the Spring Convocation and he kept nodding and smiling as Rudy talked. I was taping the Graduation and Boren was stiff!"
Now it looks like Brokaw is quitting in December! You crushed him, yahooooo!
Politics is the true uniter between Texas A&M University and Oklahoma University against the hippie liberals that infest the University of Texas.
ROFLOL!!!!!!!!! Nebraska fans joined right in with us too!
Hey! How did I miss this? I didn't know about it until I read a column in the Daily OK this morning, then I saw where it was mentioned on several blogs. Too funny!!
Did you read the letters to the editor this morning -- the one about priceless I burst out laughing? I was at the game and our section boo'd. It was hilarious and the funny part is they keep bringing up Rather as being a whole lot worse!
And Callahan is a total jerk! Loved Trammel comparing him to when he was with the Raiders and now calling us "hillbillies" and then talks about this isn't Little Rock -- we don't sit on hills.
Great paper this morning!
LOL!
Nice synopsis, thanks. [Even the synopsis turned my stomach, what a jerk.]
Guest of Dishonor
Two OU vs. Nebraska football tickets: $124. Two hot dogs and soft drinks in commemorative cups: $20. Parking: $10. Program: $7. Football fans from "red states" booing Tom Brokaw: Priceless.
LOL!!
Heh.......that's too cool!
Good news, the MSM getting their due.
Because, in Brokaw's eyes, the WWII generation fought right-wing Nazis, and the other generations faced more respectable left-wing foes. He hasn't figured out that Nazi = National Socialist.
bingo! Good point

Why are ALL American generations not GREAT??

LOLOLOLOLOL........you made my day........just heading out and stopped to check FR.........LOLOL......I'll be running errands with the biggest smile on my face!!!
Doubt if we get anymore news anchors at our football games. :)
Glad you enjoyed -- having Brokaw boo'd on top of the election results here in OK truly was priceless! :)
I sees how y'all red state folks is getting all uppity with yer betters. AND I LOVES IT!!!
LOL!
bump!
I heard Brokaw on c-span sticking up for gunga dan and his 'report'. Also he said some awful things about us. Just from his tone you could hear his disgust of the Christians.
WHAT THEN ?.... LoL.... Could'nt happen to a more deserving guy.. Nah!... wrong.. there is indeed even more deserving guys.. AND gals.. Brokaw is a good start..
Sorry I missed it!
I recently submitted an obersvation to this event to a local newspaper in response to another. It was published yesterday.
As I might have expected coming from a Democrat family some balked at the observation.
However, as someone who has studied and researched media bias over the last several years to somehow assert that Brokaw was "fair and balanced" is stupid, idiotic and foolish. There was nothing fair or balanced about him and everyone knows full well.
And to those idiots who continue to persist in this mindset that ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN and their kind are infallible and can do no wrong like Dick Pryor from Norman I would highly suggest these idiots get off their fat lazy duffers and read two articles by Brent Bozell, a man who obviously has far more brians and intelligence than these bozos.
The articles I refer to are "Tom Brokaw vs. Conservative 'Jihad'" published January 14, 2004 and "Tom Brokaw's Strange Political Spectrum" Published October 23, 1997. You can find these articles at mediaresearch.org. Then just click "Bozell's column".
These people are not on our side. They're contiuning making it known by their actions that they want a society free of conservatives and they're going to do everything in their power to achieve those means even if it means destroying innocent people's lives and reputations.
These people are not our friends, they're our enemies and to expect us here in the heartland to give approval to the reckless and irresponsible way they choose to do their jobs is stupid, idiotic and foolish. Many people including myself place journalists at the bottom in terms or respectibility along with lawyers, used car dealers, and dooor-to-door salemen.
Regards.
Amen!

Sweet !
Where is the MSM story on this? Yea right. Like we would ever see that!
Probation was lifted. But you can still rejoice in the fact that Auburn didn't recieve an Orange Bowl invite.
