Haven't seen this movie, but Super-man 2 is the best superhero movie I've ever seen, it beats them all, hands down.
It's not gloomy. It's pretty realistic, like Peter's aunt having financial troubles, and Peter Parker himself struggling to make ends meet. Then you got his love interest that he can't have because her life would be in danger.
This movie was made perfect by two scenes in the movie, and below are spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it yet and want to avoid spoilers.
I thought the train scene where Peter Parker takes of his mask in front of all those people he is trying to rescue was pretty powerful. The people don't make a big deal out of seeing him without his mask. They appreciate he saved
their lives and are grateful he is back.
The other scene is the ending, where his love interest asks him to trust her about making her own choices about the risks they might face if they are together. She frees him to be happy, she doesn't forget who Spider-man is at the end of the film, unlike Superman 2, and we see Spider-man swinging through the city shouting with joy because everything is going his way for once.
I just object to this article, it makes the second Spider-man movie out to be less then the best film of its kind to come out in a long time.

Maybe the writer thought the first SM was so bad that he didn't give the second a look. I thought the second was a dozen times better than the first...

I agree with your take of spiderman 2 and I hope for once it breaks the ridgid formal rule that a hero can't have a girl-friend.
By the way, I thought XMen 2 was also superior in droves to X 1, especially at the end when the telepath sacrifices her-self to save her friends....the glowing birdlike image in the lake in the closing scenes was a forshadowing I'm told for the rise of the PHoenix!

Sorry pal, but the best comic book pictures that have been made are still the first Superman and the first Robocop movies. They both surpass Spiderman 2 without question. Spiderman 2 was in some ways inferior the the original.
