The George Bush Presidential Monument is located in a Houston park. What is this, a scavenger hunt?

They've built a monument to 41. Fair enough, but will they have to do to properly honour 43?

Does anyone else have a problem with erecting a monument to a president who is still alive?

I don't think so. What are you afraid of, that he'll molest children? No, that monuments, statues, etc. are built to honor great figures after their death to remember their contribution to the nation.
Monuments built to leaders still alive smacks of tribute to kings and "Great Leaders" in the vein of Lenin.

Down here in Houston, we don't think of the elder Bush that way. He isn't our king and we don't think of him in Soviet terms. He's the guy we see at the Astros games and at Texas A&M skydiving.
We love him and his wife and if we want to spend our own money to honor him while he's still alive, then we'll do it.

When lived in Pecos there was a place west of town with piles and piles of sulfur that would curl your nose.

Yeah, you're right! I had forgotten about that.
There was a big ConCore drilling project outside of Girvin and they put the liquid sulphur into tanker cars.
I think that went to Pecos.
That's quite a ways from where I-10 comes across, though, I think.

"It is legal for anyone to kill a person that pours ketchup in gravy." Depends on the gravy.
If it's MY gravy, you need the ketchup to flavor the baseball sized lumps of flour.

You should use pepper instead of ketchup.
Love the tag line, btw.

The monument's features include a plaza with a wall featuring four reliefs depicting key moments in the 41st president's career, an eight-foot sculpture, timelines, quotations from Bush speeches and benches for visitors.Oh, yeah, we almost forgot, there's also a giant LED debt counter in the monument...

Gawd, I love Texas! Home of George Bush, Tom Landry, Football, Home Cookin' and Firearms! I've been all over the world and I never feel better than when I'm home in Texas. With the exception of a few rogue counties, Texas has it right in all aspects.
You really should consider visiting, Psycho_Bunny. If you don't already live here. :-)

I can't wait for the George W Bush monument in a few years. Lefties will probably rush to blow it up though
To: Dog Gone
We love him and his wife and if we want to spend our own money to honor him while he's still alive, then we'll do it. Then give him a plaque and a large celebration dinner - leave the 'graven image' alone until a great man has passed.

Yes, it's a L O N G way. I've driven to LA from Florida and the longest part or 1/3 of the trip was driving thru Texas. It's a awesome long and boring drive. There are hardly any people in Texas except for the large cities. LOL

I wonder if that sculpture is the one by David Adickes that has been in various places (including the Continental Airlines concourse) out at George Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport? I kind of like that one, with the jacket flowing behind him. It's different, but it's a very good likeness and it depicts him well.
