National Security Adviser Is Bush's Choice to Replace Powell
Nov. 15, 2004
National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice will be nominated to replace Colin Powell as secretary of state, ABC News has learned.
Senior administration sources confirmed that Rice would be Bush's choice. The news comes just hours after the White House announced Powell had submitted his resignation.
Rice, considered to be one of the president's closest counselors, has served as national security adviser since Bush first took office.

This will be a real challenge for her. She hasn't had this kind of large-scale administrative experience before. Maybe they can find a good deputy for her.
I suppose it's too much to hope for that State should be cleaned out. Eisenhower couldn't do it. Nixon couldn't do it. Reagan couldn't do it. But it would be nice to get rid of at least a few of the worst offenders, especially among the Arabist faction.

Let's see the Dems give her a hard time during her confirmation hearing!! If she's already in the cabinet, does she have to go through that again?

I've always liked the sound of, "Madame Secretary." Maybe she can undo some of the damage that idiot Albright did to the post?

Take that Saudi Arabia, Iran and other moslem countries that have hard time dealing with women. Actually, hey France! Don't mess with her, if you know what is good for you.

Very nice. This will give her a much higher profile and better name recognition; things that are handy to have should her future plans include something other than serving as NFL Commissioner.

Well, the confirmation fight is going to be just a prelude to the SCOTUS.....it will be nasty as heck.
But, I think she will pull of a win thanks to our 55 people and allowing for upwards of 5 defections.

NSA aren't confirmed by the Senate, so I think she still needs to go through the process.

I hesitate to use this term "bush's dream team" coming up.

It's good for the ARAB leaders to see that every woman is not a hideous, incompetent troll like Helen Thomas, oops I mean Maddy Albright.

Of course.
Any person, even if it is a re-confirmation, need approval from the Senate.

I don't know Condi's politics, but she does have a nice butt. Kudos to W for this gutsy and anashamed move.

If they are civil service employees they should be retired Not so fast, there. We could move them to the post office and put them in charge of the Anthrax Detection Unit.

I don't think they will put up a big fight going after Bush's Cabinet appointees, more likely they will save it for SCOTUS nominees.

After the French betrayal, Condi said, (not the exact quote), Russia will be pardoned, Germany isolated, and France punished. Let the punishing begin. Go Condi.

Some say that anyone can be replaced... but in the case of Condi Rice... I don't know if that is possible.

Will she echo Powell's blather about improving "migration" for Mexicans?
