For the first time since taking office, President Bush will have his global vision championed by a diplomat who sees the world through the same lens.As secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, a faithful and trusted follower with close personal ties to Bush and his family, will be an impassioned messenger of Bush's foreign policy, experts agreed.
A True Believer, Rice strikes a sharp contrast with outgoing Secretary of State Colin Powell the administration's reluctant warrior who never established a personal relationship with the president or enjoyed his full confidence.
"She is much more hard-line than Powell," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's political program.
"The message to foreign capitals is: Like it or not, you've got to deal with Bush's view. Bush is not going to mold to your view," Sabato added.
[snip]
She spends more time at Bush's side than nearly anyone else in the White House and often weekends with the first family at Camp David.
Her loyalty to the president and his world view is unquestioned; the same could not be said about Powell.
Her service as secretary of state will now give Bush a fighting chance to complete his vision of a safer, more democratic world.

Powell out, Rice in.
Less carrot, more stick.
Give 'em hell Condi!
She will be fantastic!!!
This is great. I'm glad she got the job. No moderate tone for the next 4 years.
T minus 30 seconds and counting....
Bomb Iran and North Korea. Send in the stealth bombers.
The Democrats are NOT going to oppose the confirmation of a black woman as Secretary Of State. They don't want the GOP to steal more of the black base by the time the next election rolls around.
If we (conservatives) win the Presidency in the next election, the liberals will really have a fit.
Hey everybody. Just imagine Dr Condi Rice, (highly educated, strong, black, woman) meeting some misogynist, racist, Saudi prince...with no hair cover! Oh my lord!
Sweeeeeet!
-it was well under way during the 9/11 hearings...
It already has via Hardball.
Ms. Rice will son carry the adjetives.. Polarizing, extremist, right wing, neocon....help out freepers.
Second verse, same as the first! ; )
Today, pat buchanan is already attacking her as a neo-con and questioning her qualifications.
Ms. Rice will son carry the adjetives.. Polarizing, extremist, right wing, neocon....help out freepers.
She will be known by her enemies...and she's off to a good start.
You performed poorly in English class didn't you.
For not being his first language he doesn't do too bad.
Not that bad, sorry.
Actually, I've already seen what the meme will be on message boards like Charlie Rose.
The meme is that she's just a "yes" woman, unable to think for herself, parroting Bush's line.
It's the exact same old message, repackaged to be more "politically correct". 5 or 10 years ago, the message would've been "She's a House Slave... Bush is her 'massah'... they're keeping her on the plantation..." and they'd be drawing really really ugly caricatures of her with a big butt and big lips walking into the SoS offices with pictures of Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas, etc. all similarly caricatured applauding her in.
The message from libs never changes - any black who doesn't agree with them is an Uncle Tom slave, unable to think for themselves. The fact that Condi is an incredibly sharp, intelligent and accomplished woman (and when I say incredibly, I mean it - graduated college at 19, college professor at 26!) and who is obviously quick as lightning on her feet and -very- independent, means nothing to them. Any black who -does- think for themselves (e.g. leaves the liberal plantation) must be minimized and rendered inert as a possible figure of admiration by other blacks.
Thus, it won't be enough for them to just lump her in as a "neocon" or "right wing" - the same attack they'd use on Bush or Cheney or Wolfowitz. No, with her, the daggers will be a thousand times sharper. And the underlying message is going to be racist as all hell.

They never learn do they.
To think they are considered the "progressive" party is a thought that puts one in a quandary.
"To think they are considered the "progressive" party is a thought that puts one in a quandary."
Well, 40 years of intense, monotrack propaganda isn't going to be totally ineffective.

Oh, don't apologize because of my notice, however "Dr" IS the appropriate title when referencing our soon to be Secretary of State. ; )
I agree, however the ball is rolling, the "gig" is up and NOW, thanks to Dubya, the snow job is no longer a blizzard, and the sky's are clearing.
It seems Powell's wife Alma was off the ranch on life. Social meetings with the Bushes and Powells might have been like that in many families who cannot discuss politics in a social setting. Just kind of a drag.
Laura and Condi seem to get along well. Condi would be a good choice because as a woman, she might be able to clean house easier. State is Mommy and Defense is Daddy. Wolfie or Rummy would be equally effective at State, but wouldn't have as good a cover.
Let's hope she is truly tough like Thatcher or Kirkpatrick. Thatcher is a truly beautiful woman, and Condi is beautiful in the same way as Kirkpatrick. I kind of hope she finds a nice guy.
Out of curiosity, how are her titles handled then? Is the doctor dropped or somehow appended?
Condi is as incapable of being a bitch as Hillary is incapable of being a lady. Condi is our Margaret Thatcher. She has brains, vision and an iron will.
Incapable? No. She just chooses to have the switch on "off" most of the time.
I was sure that Senator Clinton was the smartest woman in the world!
On her desk she should have an intimidation sign, "100 percent bitch.
I believe you should drop the term. I suspect that Condi could express righteous indignation better than 99.99 percent of the people. But she has shown tremendous restraint and poise during encounters with hostile press. The bitch term implies irrational irritablility. It's not the least bit complimentary and Dr. Rice shouldn't be described with that term even if you meant it affectionately.
What is the male equivalent to the term? May we use it for Rumsfeld?
I welcome this switch.
However, I also respect and admire Powell. I hope the old warrior can find some other role in this administration. Perhaps Ambassador to Britain?
disagreed on one point: a woman with courage, high moral standards, backbone and the willingness to confront evil in righteous indignation is NOT a B**ch, she's a real WOMAN, kind of the mirror image of Hitlary.....
She has been vilified by the Racist Mysogynist Liberal Gary Trudeau in "Doonesbury". She's off to a great start.
"Doesn't have the ring I was looking for."
Other possible signs:
It's My way or the highway
Armed and dangerous
Trespassers will be eaten
You live to serve this ship
but she might prefer:
Though heaven falls, do right!
State is Benedict Arnold and Defense is Patrick Henry.
Doonesbury is one of the most effective pro-Marxist propaganda organs in existence. The wit and toon characters are disarming but the dialogue is stuff of which Goebbels and Trotsky would be proud. It's because it's so low-key and "funny" that it's so deadly. We need to call on every editor to complain about cartoon politics, single out Doonesbury and insist on balance...and meanwhile we must push more conservative cartoonists up into the big leagues by demanding they be published in our MSM....
Brilliant analysis, short, to the point. A+
Those are great!
And don't forget the "icy death stare"!!
ALLELUIA.I'll like to see the face of french politicals,CHIRAC first
FRENCH FOR BUSH
My jaw almost hit my keyboard when I saw this. Who in this country, other than Rumsfeld, and maybe W's daddy, is more qualified for this job??
Condi Rice.... the anti-Madeline Albright.
And that, my friends, is a wonderful thing.
