Football player charged with assault on National Guard officer
Associated Press
CORVALLIS, Ore. - An Oregon State football player has been charged with assaulting an Oregon National Guard soldier after a fight resulting from racial comments about the soldier and his wife.
Joseph Rudulph, 19, a freshman from Sacramento, Calif., was arrested Friday after the confrontation early Friday morning at the Headline Cafe in downtown Corvallis.
Staff Sgt. Gabriel Sapp was dancing with his wife at the restaurant when they were approached by a group of black men, identified as Oregon State football players. The men began making comments to Sapp's wife, who is also black, about her relationship with her husband, who is white, according to Corvallis police Capt. Jon Sassaman.
"At some point, his wife was targeted with comments about why she was with a white male," Sassaman said. "This escalated into an argument that led outside."
According to witnesses, a large crowd gathered around the couple during the argument. Sapp was punched in the face and was knocked unconscious when he hit the ground. His wife was also knocked to the ground when Sapp was struck.
Witnesses identified the attacker as Rudulph. The men fled the scene shortly before Sapp's wife flagged down a passing police car. After gathering statements, police tracked down Rudulph at his residence. Sassaman said Rudulph admitted hitting Sapp, but claimed he was reacting to racial comments by Sapp.
Witness accounts, however, did not back up that statement, according to Sassaman.
Rudulph faces assault, harassment and disorderly conduct charges.
University and team officials had no comment.
Sapp was celebrating his last night of leave with his wife at the restaurant. Sapp is a squad leader assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment, 39th Brigade Combat Team.
He left for Iraq Friday.
they forgot "left wing racists" as the opening description of the football players.
Just a question about your screen name - what happened to the other hip?
What a loser. (The football playa, that is.)
Rudulph the Red-handed Racist.
what happened to the other hip?
Ho Ho Ho good one.
Could mean he's "cool"
Cheers!
Salvation and DC2000, please ping the Oregon list about this hate crime where a black racist thug attacked a white man and his black wife.
I believe that the above is a direct quote from the Democrat/MSM Handbook.
2004: Joe may be the next in the line of outstanding defensive linemen at OSU...a quick player who could make a significant impact this season.
2003: Redshirt...he enrolled at OSU for winter quarter of 2003, thus has been a member of the team longer than a typical redshirt freshman.
NATOMAS: Rudulph was a two-year starter at defensive end and offensive tackle for head coach Perry Starks...team captain as a senior...made 135 tackles during his starting career on defense, including 16 sacks and 27 tackles for loss...had 45 tackles as a sophomore with five sacks...first team All-Capital Valley Conference and first team all-city as a senior...a four-year starter in baseball as a pitcher and first baseman...earned one letter in basketball.
PERSONAL: Born in Sacramento, California...son of James and Debra Holloway...James is a chef and Debra is a county supervisor...has three sisters, Jasmine, Jamila and Sherice...Brett Favre is his favorite athlete...hobbies include video games and swimming...majoring in liberal studies.
And he's majoring in Liberal Studies, naturally.
As a white man who is married to a black woman, let me say that there is no group that gives us more dirty looks........than black women.
Racism and bigotry is not a product of the color of your skin, it is a product of the emptiness of your head.
All this PC crap seems to have given many people the idea they can go around being racists and getting physical, with the thought that "I can play the race card, and this will all go away bwaaaaahahahahahaha" but it didn't work in this jerk's case.
Do you mean to tell me that all that tolerance and diversity training that our colleges engage in, isn't working out...even in Oregonistan. Than again, they'd probably defend this as "evening the playing field" or retribution.
His family must be so proud. Wonder how long it took for them to blame the racially-imbalanced environment of Corvallis...
Please do your job.......
It was a hate crime....the african american version of the KKK
imo
See BADJOCKS.COM A fully place to check out all the jocks and the stupid stuff they do.
It is NOT my site, BTW. I am just a fan.
I am a third generation Oregon State Alum, work in Corvallis, and quit giving money to OSU when they started letting homosexual couples live in married student housing and gave an endowed chair to a prominent member of the notorious Jesus Seminar. There is no chance a fourth generation will go to that school. Corvallis passed Eugene up as the most liberal town in the state several years back. I live in Albany and drive to Corvallis just to minimize my time in this truly bigoted and intolerant town. Other than that, I don't feel too strongly about it.
A white guy who's married to a black woman made a racial slur to a black guy? Riiiiiight.
Same story as me except that the only hard stares and comments have come from black males. F'um, it doesn't bother me a bit, although I've never had to dodge fists because of it.
The funniest thing is that when traveling in rural areas, some white folks are overly friendly and solicitous around us.
Hey, no problem, I figure they're coming from a good place.
What is in order here is jail time for the perp and, while they're at it, flush his scholarship down the toilet.
Let us not be silly about this! In a blue state, it is not possible for a BLACK to be guilty of a hate crime. It is what makes blue states blue! Now, if the races had been reversed, then the NYT would have this on the front page!
Yeah, I have noticed that white people in general try overly hard to show how "approving" they are of my wife and I's inter-racial marriage. Might not be genuine, but it is better than the dirty looks that come from black men and women.
My take on the issue of race is all the talk about how we need to all get together, talk about it, blah blah blah is exactly wrong. LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT IT! BECAUSE WHO THE F*&K CARE ALREADY, IT'S JUST SKIN TONE FOR CHRIST SAKE. Should we hold a forum for me in late August when I'm tan as Hell from a summer at the beach? Enough already, move on, I'm white, you're black, who gives a flip!
Yeah - too bad the Civil War game this weekend is being played there, and not in Eugene. Still, I hope the turnout in Corvallis overwhelms the homers with negative acknowledgement.
/grin
"Minorities 75% of the U.S. population"
Doesn't THAT seem a bit stramge that 75% = "minority??
That is why we must rid ourselves of lawyer scumbags and their scions such as the aclu, naacp, dnc - before we do not even recognize the ENGLISH language!
Ain't no woman like the one-eyed Gott--one hip Dad.

Absolutely! When you add up Hispanic (M & F), black (M & F), well, all non-white (M & F), then all Female, plus they are working hard to add anyone who claims to be a sexual deviant (M & F). It's probably approaching 80 or 90% of the country classified as "minority."
Opens ones eyes to see why democrats are so willing to buy "minority" votes. They are the vast majority. Fortunately, many (sadly, not most) minorities don't fall into the demoncrat stereotypical clueless voter who can be tricked into voting demoncrat.
That is definitely par for the course for Oregon State. I wouldn't send a dog to that university for training.

Another OSU alum here. The administration is a bunch of gutless wonders who durn near bankrupted the place. Fellow named White managed to rescue them and now he's gone. I'm thinking a little email might be in order here.
Ooooh, a real live racial incident for the academic community to Corvallis to agitate over. Ooops, wait, wrong races involved, the special meetings are cancelled.
No hate crime here, everybody just move along, nothing to see here, just a young college kid who had a little bit too much to drink, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...
Again, an attack in Corvallis

Neither incident clarifies where the notion of "live and let live" has gone, and other big questions remain: To what degree was this a hate-motivated incident, and how much of it can be attributed to that incendiary trio of attitude, alcohol and immaturity? Will Rudulph's temper and attitude ultimately cost him his scholarship?
In another time; or if there had been more time, perhaps this could have been resolved with apologies and handshakes all around. But that isn't likely now. For one thing, Sapp won't be in town when Rudulph makes his Dec. 9 court hearing on the charges.

I heard Lars discussing this Monday morning and he said that Coach Riley said something like "there are no innocent parties here..."
Does anyone have a link to an article that has this quote? I haven't been able to find anything on the web, did Riley really say that?

Hang 'em High!
OK everybody - this should surprise no one, but the newspapers have oversimplified and oversensationalized the events.
From a friend who was there:
The white/black taunting was going on. Evidently, one of the football players used to date the wife. Stupid, inexcusable to harrass anybody's wife for any reason. Then it died down, the football players were leaving without any punches being thrown....but a stupid white b!tch starting hollering and racheting it back up (had she kept her pie-hole shut, we probably wouldn't have heard anything about this) - so the military guy hustles outside to re-ignite the bruhaha (this is where the "no innocent parties" comes in), and he gets punched.
The fact that he is a soldier has nothing to do with the whole deal. It is thrown in by the media to ignite emotions, but as far as I can tell, he wasn't in uniform so nobody even knew he was a soldier at the time.
The other players were suspended for being there, but they are not being charged - so as far as anybody can tell, they weren't involved in the assault, which is what Rudolph is being charged with.
Riley (the coach) is not the clearest of speakers, so his comment may have even been referring to his players (nobody is innocent) and not making any comment on the actions of the husband.
Riley has taken one of his starters out of the most important game of the year (the Civil War this weekend) - for being at the scene. This kid is a fairly important part of the team, and the suspension might mean OSU loses on Saturday. Riley has acted appropriately and quickly, without an eye to the W-L column - further action will be taken, if called for, once the investigation and trial are completed.
The comments to the wife were racist, the media is not calling this a hate crime, as they would if the roles were reversed - but climbing Riley's frame, or denegrating the University for the way it's being handled, or even trashing the other 3 kids who were there without more evidence, is liberal-whacko kind of leaps without evidence or knowledge. If Rudolph was leaving, and the soldier followed him out and got decked....then the only thing anybody should hold against Rudolph is being underaged in a drinking establishment and being a loudmouthed jerk, yapping racist comments to someboy's wife.
this appears to be Rudulph's listing at Oregon State
email and ask him,.

What a stupid thing to do.
You think because the kid's name is in the paper (and we all know how reliably accurate everything mentioned in the MSM is) that we have the "right" or "duty" to innundate him with innane questions from ignorant observers, informed only by the slanted reporting of the MSM?
What's wrong with you people?
Your attempt here to rationalize away Rudulph's culpability by blaming the sloppy drunk white chick's purported influence on the soldier is a perfect example of how easily the perpetrator can be made out to be the victim. The fact that Rudulph is suspended from playing in the Civil War game could be a life-changing event for him, and whether that's good or bad is entirely up to him - and entirely dependent on whether he percieves himself to be the victim or the perpetrator of his own actions at that bar.
"Doesn't THAT seem a bit strange that 75% = "minority??"
That's nothing compared to the 80% of Americans that the "handi-capable" advocates are trying to claim have a disability of some kind or another.
No, I'm not making that up.
