Network News Chiefs Worry About Fox News Channel (Bwahahahahaha!!!!!)
IMDb.com ^ | 11-17-04

Posted on 11/17/2004 6:46:48 PM PST by Paul Atreides

The news presidents of ABC, CBS and NBC all agree that the rise of the Fox News Channel poses a threat to their organizations. Appearing on a panel at Stanford University Monday night, CBS News President Andrew Hayward remarked, "Fox has added an important new ingredient to the news system: they mix news and opinion. ... Fox is a blend of news and talk radio on TV. That is a powerful dimension." As reported in the college newspaper Stanford Daily on Tuesday, each of the news chiefs voiced similar concerns. Said ABC News President David Westin: "The problem is when news and opinion are mashed together. ... It is starting to push out the truth telling, which is undermining our core mission. We have to keep the central goal telling the truth as we see it." Each of the executives said that they now must deal with public preconceptions that may clash with the actual facts. NBC News President Neal Shapiro observed that the network had presented military experts who maintained that there wouldn't be enough troops in Iraq to pacify the country following the invasion. "This didn't seem to resonate with the American people." Westin agreed, noting that polls show "that an alarming number of people still believe there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq."

Can you believe they would say something like that? Just like the left-accuse their opponents of doing exactly what the left does all the time.

In psche circles its called projection. The left is so unaware that they do it, yet another symptom of delusion. Because they ernestly believe that conservatives are evil and underhanded they feel justified in doing anything to win...which smells of desperation...which is a turn-off to most.

How Dare FOX report the news the news the way THEY SEE IT, especially if it contradicts the Liberal establishment.

I've been openly hard on FOX lately, and named them a part of the MSM, but they aren't hypocritical in the sense the MSM are. At least you know where their people stand when they are bringing you the news. They aren't trying to manipulate the public by denying they have a natural bias.

Oh, and I'm one of those alarming numbers that contiues to question the existence of WMD's. We've found small numbers of WMD's, numerous country's and agencies cited proof of their existence in large quantity, Saddam believed they existed, they used them in past and he showed every inclination to restart the program, they had years to hide them or move to a friendly country, and advance notice of imminent invasion to dispense with them.

If they didn't exist, prove it. Don't just tell me your OPINIONS, document the discrepancies that leave this an open question and invaildate them with hard proof.

"Fox mixes news with opinion," whereas ABC "Tells the truth as we see it."

Oh... now I understand. Geez, the truth, "as we see it," is, like, so different from opinion, Dude.

Not even a two-by-four upside the head will help. These people are willfully clueless.

Saddam had, and used WMD against Iran and on his own people. It alarms me greatly that Westin doesn't know this.

"We have to keep the central goal telling the truth as we see it."

By which he means:

"We have to keep the central goal telling the truth as we [ Democrats ] see it."

The more they talk, the more they reveal about themselves. The funny part is, they actually think that talking down to people will win them over.

I wonder who will be issuing the networks their talking points, when Terry McAuliffe leaves the DNC.

Who in the world is he addressing with that convoluted statement?

Mr. Westin... you should have told "O'Really?" about that earlier so that he would have an early realization,- that seems too late now...

Poor channel... i hope they wont change the name to FaxChannel!...

I done with 'em all. I still could take the weekend version of NBC News with John Siegenthaler. But this Sites incident has just about ended my watching of MSM news.

And there in lies the problem
TOO many conservatives still watch the MSM and read the liberal rags

I ceased back in 1970

If all conservatives did that the MSM would panic overnight

The Dems and the Old Media are quite sure that was not a cliff they just drove over. Couldn't be. Their map says the road goes on forever.

A couple of days ago, David Martin (CBS?) was on C-spam and he said that "It is our job to criticize the administration!"

I thought it was the repsonsibility of a journalist to REPORT the news and let the reader/viewer make the decision of whether the action of the adminsitration was to be praised or criticized!

We have to keep the central goal telling the truth as we see it.

This, dear folks, is the code of the media left. As they see the truth, it conveniently omitted (for brief example)John Kerry's original discharge, his horrific and provable lies about black operations in Cambodia and running in the Boston Marathon. I could go on for a page or two, but you get the point.

Their TRUTH is highly filtered parsings that a) confirms their Utopian notions about the left, and/or b) vilifies political enemies.

Their TRUTH is highly threatened by authentic truth, hence the worry about FOX news (and also Free Republic).
