The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Threat Matrix - Daily Terrorism Threat

Connect these dots, now
Full Story
"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

After reading acsa.com (which I take sometimes with a grain of salt), I come to the conclusion that the actions of Musharif (sp?) should be closely watch. I'm sure that he is helping terrorists either by letting them get by with illegal activities, or actually supplies weapons (including WMD) to them. We have a very unusually relationship with Mush..."keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_bin_Laden

In 1968, Mohammed bin Laden was killed in a plane crash near San Antonio, Texas when Osama was only eleven-years-old.Following Mohammed bin Laden's death, his eldest sons, principally Salem bin Laden, renamed the organization, "Binladen Brothers for Contracting and Industry" and continued to expand their late father's company until it employed more than 40,000 people. In 1988, Salem bin Laden died when his ultra-light aircraft crashed after hitting power lines near an air park north of San Antonio, Texas. The "Saudi Binladin Group" as it is now known, is involved in construction, engineering, manufacturing, and telecommunications. Construction projects include airports, housing complexes, tunnels, and bridges. The group is also involved in city planning and real estate development. The Saudi Binladin Group is Egypt's largest private foreign company and negotiated with the Lebanese government to rebuild part of central Beirut under a US$50 million contract.

That OBL considers himself (as well as many others) the Mahdi is well understood. So far he has not availed himself to link that to celestial events, and there have been many here looking for that to happen.

In a purely strategic sense, waiting until Iran has nukes would make a lot of sense.

I can agree fully with this theory, especially in view of current events.

I agree about ACSA. Musharif is in a delicate position and may try to play both ends against the middle. As long as his military is loyal to him he can put the face forward as a WOT allie. But he can't go too far. However, if he allows the terrorists to seem like they are getting away with too much, India may get an ichy trigger finger which would be disasterous for him and Pakistan. Yes indeed, keep him VERY close.

Good points/comments. One of them was:

Babbin and Eagleburger were on MSNBC last night and both confirmed the existence of a rumor (not its veracity) that Iran has obtained 3 nuclear warheads on the black market.

I had not heard this before. If the rumor is true, it creates a strategic nightmare. As you know, the leadership of Iran has publicly stated that allah would be pleased to see 100 million Muslims die, if Israel were destroyed in the process. Mutual Assured Destruction does not seem very effective against this mindset.

Under this mindset, the only target that might deter a nuclear attack on Israel is Mecca. The only nation that would attack Mecca is Israel, and then only if Israel has been wiped out by a nuclear first strike.

Contrary to the hot blooded opinions of some Freepers, the United States would not destroy Mecca even if we were nuked. The only way the U.S. would destroy Mecca is if the war against terror becomes an all out war between all of Islam and the rest of the world. Even then we would probably hold back, hoping to win the war some other way.

Canadian Transport minister to investigate missing airport uniforms and badges

IMHO though, Iran already has the Nukes.

When will Al Queda pull the trigger is the question???

All we can do is speculate (tied to celestial signs? the Iraq elections? Muslim "holy" days? Jewish or Christian holy days?). If our intel agencies knew for sure, we would probably also know enough other details that we could stop it.

I doubt we will get another Bin Laden tape, either. The next one is likely to be after the fact, or an "in five minutes" type of warning/gloat.

A sure sign that a huge attack is imminent would be if "someone" blows up the Dome of the Rock mosque. It would be blamed on Israel, of course, but would be such a perfect way to generate Muslim rage (and justification for the use of nukes) that Al Qaida could easily choose to do so itself. The building itself may not be considered "holy". Even if it is, they may feel the end justifies the means.
