Roll Tide, but those damn Tigers are tough this year. If they beat Bama I hope they win the Championship. Don['t count Bama out as the spoiler, though. That Bama "D" is mean.

It is going to be tough. All SEC teams, with the exception of one, are really, really, hard. There is never a sure-fire, guaranteed winner ever. I remember one memorable game in 1972 where there was no way Auburn would win. Everyone said so. They were having a remarkable season and had done astonishing well. But the clock had chimed midnight and it was past time for Cinderella to leave the ball. I was a freshman that year. I was at the game.

We were down 16 - 0 and many had left the stadium. By the end of 4th quarter and two blocked punts later, we won 17 - 16!

On any Saturday, any team in the SEC can rally and beat any other team. It ain't over until Liz Edwards sings.

My daughter, aka LionsDaughter on FR, is in the AU band and was there last week. She said that last week when Reggie Brown was injured, THE ENTIRE TEAM, went onto the field and knelt down and PRAYED FOR HIM. She went on to say that it isn't unusual to see groups of players during the game to huddle together and are obviously praying. The Christian influence on that team is really spectacular.

My dad graduated at Auburn (API) in 1949. He worked at J&M bookstore while there. I grew up a huge Auburn fan. I graduated at Alabama in 1982 (my wife in 1983). It's not a long story how that happened, but it's interesting. My parents and I don't talk about the game, ever, anymore since we went 3 months without speaking after the 1990 game. It seems to work out for us really well. It's really hard to express to people outside the state of Alabama just how intense this rivalry is, so I won't try here.

Oh, I forgot my prediction. Alabama wins 17-16. A little inside joke.

Roll tide!

I think we're going to need at least 2 defensive TDs to beat AU this year, and I don't think that's going to happen. (sigh).

I also briefly lived in both of your trailer parks (before moving even further out on wire road). Gentilly and Stonegate Trailer park were considered good locations. They had the bicycle lane on wire road into the campus and I once fancied myself a bicyclist until one day I overfilled my front bike tire and had it explode on me on the road. I did about 3 flips and tore all my clothes up and totaled my bike, bloody mess I was. I threw my bike in a dumpster and thumbed home and never did the bike thing again. LOL...

LOL, we were trailer park trash too, Dad/Mom was sending us three kids at once on very modest means (bless their hearts). I remember just how poor we were. Do you remember the sugar ants Auburn had, you couldn't leave a french fry laying around for 5 minutes in your car without a whole colony of ants invading. I bought some "captain crunch cereal" once as a treat (high dollar munchies back then). Anyway, the durn ants found em in the cabinet and it infuriated me, my special cereal was sacred and these pests had encroached on forbidden territory. I decided they must die, so I placed my box of sugar treats in the microwave and cooked on high for two minutes. My mistake was leaving the scene of the crime to use the bathroom and when I returned my whole kitchen area was engulfed in the most horrible black smoke you could imagine. It took days to clean my kitchen walls, floors, ect... and I still think to this day you probable can faintly smell the stench produced by CCC.

Just one of several dumb things I did back then. The bad check thing to McDonalds was another bad mistake. That was the most expensive Big Mac, Fries, and Dr. Pepper meal in the country. I can still see the veins popping out of my dad's head when I told him...LOL...I never wrote another bad check since then...***ouch***

I haven't been back to AU in years. I'm getting the memory itch now.

Toomers Corner.... What great memories! Anybody old enough to remember Sani-Flush or Kopper Kettle?

I don't remember Kppper Kettle (perhaps you can refresh my memory), but the Sani-Flush (ice cream) was still a hit in the mid 80's. I remember all the little record stores that flurished around Toomer's area. The little alternative radio station would play all these wonderful gems and I would try to find the "used" records if I could. I remember cd's came out but I didn't have a cd player, albums still ruled.

1971 joke?

NEWS FLASH! - Alabama's worst air disaster occurred when a small two-seater Cessna 150 plane, piloted by two Univ. of Alabama students crashed into a cemetery earlier today. Search and rescue workers have recovered 300 bodies so far and expect the number to climb as digging continues into the evening. The pilot and copilot survived and are helping in the recovery efforts. -------------------------------------

An Auburnman had a flat tire, pulled off on the side of the road, and proceeded to put a bouquet of flowers in front of the car and one behind it. Then he got back in the car to wait. A passerby studied the scene as he drove by and was so curious he turned around and went back. He asked the fellow what the problem was. The man replied, "I have a flat tire." The passerby asked, "But what's with the flowers?" The man responded, "When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back! I never did understand it neither."

Thanks for the ping!

Rooooooollllllllllllllllllllll Tide!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's gonna be a tough one, but maybe Bama can pull it off. If they do, I'll forgive 'em for hiring Mike Shula. It's funny, cause hubby and I usually pull for Auburn when they're not playin' Bama. However, last week, when I realized how good Auburn is this year, I decided it was time to root against Auburn again. Who can explain such logic??????????????

The 1990 Iron Bowl was the last Bama game I attended. I was so happy for Gene Stallings. (and Bama)

The dual Bama/Auburn welcome mat is pretty funny. When you go to the game, you'll see many couples dressed in their respective teams' colors. In Alabama, those relationships are referred to as "mixed marriages." LOL.

You're like me then.

Being from MS, it was harder for me to hate AU like the born-and-bred AL folks I knew. I just didn't grow up disliking them the way I grew up disliking other teams in the SEC. Heck, growing up I hardly knew any AU fans.

That said, I will not root for AU except under very limited and exigent circumstances.

The only way I'd be happy is if this game ended in a zero-zero tie.

Then I would know there is justice in the universe.

Go Vols!
