President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

Gotta be impressed by W's travel schedule. Chilie is 9 hours by plane to Dallas, Tx. and another 2.5 to Washington. ANd Chilie is all smothered with smog at least Santiago is.

If you go over there, you can see the front of the tag the best in the picture where President Bush is getting out of the limo.
The agent involved is to the President's right as he is getting out of the car.
I should have tried to zoom in on the tag while I was there.

The US President arrives with half the hemisphere big shots. Just the occasion for a terrorist incident. Everybody on edge. The Chileans must have practiced security for weeks, then freaked out for some reason and machismo wouldn't let them back down. Plus national pride. I'll bet GW will put in a kind word for Chilean security before he leaves.
I missed all this so am thrilled to see the pics and hear all about it. Hoping Fox will run the clip again today.
Wow! This is a guy who isn't afraid of anyone or anything. There aren't many president who would have the guts to wade into an angry crowd to do that.
Great story. Wasn't it Clinton who actually ditched his SS detail while jogging? He somehow slipped away from them, in London, I believe. Apparently, the 'football', national security, and the gravity of his office meant nothing.

Absolutely jaw dropping pictures, but we shouldn't be surprised. This is why we elected GW President twice -- character.
