President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

You didn't read the article.

It clearly said:

"As Bush stepped inside, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president's agents from following."

"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan.

This minor incident notwithstanding, Chile is one of our best friends and allies (and trading partners) in Latin America.

Well, if this President thing doesn't work out for him, he can always get a security job at Pacer games.

LOL!

I just loved watching him jump into the crowd, pulling people away from his agent and, damn, just taking charge of the situation.

What we didn't see is the little red dots. or Bullseyes on every head near the President at that time, there are other SS agents not involved in the fray, President Bush was just righting a case of mistaken identity, no need to give the DU any ammo or hope for a conspiracy or coup attempt.

I am proud of my President, this was just him being him... it is over.

TT

About 3-4 months before 9/11 Russia & China signed a military alliance. Just before and during 9/11 Russia was conducting bomber exercises in the Atlantic Ocean, near the US and also in the Artic. These bombers had added fuel capacity. After the 9/11 attack, President Bush called Putin and told him to cancel the exercise. He did. However, what if the 9/11 attacks were successful in decapitating our government? Do you think Putin would have stilled cancel the nuclear bomber exercise or gone for the kill?

Bush frees agent from Chile guards

Sun 21 November, 2004 04:22

SANTIAGO, Chile (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush reached into a throng of squabbling bodyguards and pulled a Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officers after they stopped the him from accompanying the president at a dinner.

Chilean security stopped several members of the president's Secret Service detail and a pushing and shoving match ensued. It occurred as Bush was entering the Mapocho Station cultural centre on Saturday for an official dinner of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit's 21 leaders.

Bush was posing for pictures on the red carpet with his wife, Laura, and Chilean President Richard Lagos and his wife, Luisa Duran, when the president noticed the confrontation unfolding behind him.

He stepped away from them and reached into the quarrelling crowd and hauled the lead Secret Service agent from Chilean security agents.

For a few seconds Bush met resistance from the Chilean officers. Bush was seen shaking his head and muttering under his breath as he walked away.

APEC's summit television showed the incident.

The White House had little comment.

"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Security Service from accompanying him. He told them they were with him, and the issue was resolved," White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said.

You've obviously never been to Chile. It is NOT a third world country.

Myself. If you were an assassin would you expect President Bush to do what he did? No way.

I read the article. But that place was CRAWLING with SS agents I will guarantee you. They shook down every inch of that place hours before the arrival and were there at numerous strategic locations along the President's path from the limo to the banquet hall. These guys aren't palookas.

I don't mean to be surly with you, but I guarantee you that by midnight CST this is going to transition into an assasination attempt that should bring Bush immediately home, and by 1 am the border wedgies will be here tying this Chilean outrage into some byproduct of illegal Hispanic immigration.

The initial takes on this event were the right ones. Now all the paranoics are going to show up to escalate the outrage and danger.

Since when is it the job of the SS to look at the President? It's their job to recognize and neutralize the threat. If their eyes were on the President, I'd presume they weren't SS, and were a potential danger.

That is so silly I really have no response.

It should never have gotten to that point. Sounds like a lack of communications or maybe a little Latin Machismo.

What is disturbing is this -

This is a foreign country. Not our "home turf".

And the President was easily and very quickly separated from all of his guards. These Latin nations have a tradition of violent attacks on heads of state. They know how to do it.

And the SS let itself be separated, neutralized, and distracted.

Watch the video. The huge crowd of photogs, military, and obvious hangers on should NEVER have been allowed near GWB as he gets out of his limo. His head of detail should have stopped the exit from the limo when he SAW that mess and made them use another entrance.

What a disaster - just barely avoided.
