Five Hunters Killed in Wisconsin Dispute
BIRCHWOOD, Wis. A deer hunter shot and killed five people and injured
three others in northwestern Wisconsin following a dispute about a tree stand
during the hunt's opening weekend, authorities said.
The 36-year-old alleged gunman, who lives in the Minneapolis area, was arrested Sunday afternoon, Sawyer County (search) sheriff's officials said. Jake Hodgkinson, a deputy at the county jail, identified the suspect as Chai Vang but would give no additional details.
The incident began when two hunters were returning to their rural cabin on private land in Sawyer County when they saw the suspect in one of their hunting platforms in a tree, County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle said. A confrontation and shooting followed.

This should cheer the lefties up...
this is absolutely unacceptable behavior, what is wrong with people? NBA players, hunters, college kids, the list is endless and I attribute it to the PC generation where everyone can do whatever they want wherever and whenever. What happened to self discipline, learning right from wrong?????
Gee, I wonder how PETA and the other anti-hunting groups will spin this? Hmmmmmmm.
I hope Wis. has the death penalty. What a #~!%%&!!!
strange..
Have you noticed that our great MSM have been saying that the killer was using an Assault Rifle?
Oh deer!
They had this story wrong after only four words. The man that shot and killed five people was not a deer hunter; he was a poacher. He was on private land in a deer stand belonging to someone else and he shot them when confronted. A deer hunter only hunts on land where he has legal permission to hunt. To call this criminal a deer hunter is an insult to hunters everywhere.
Unfortunately WI does not have the death penalty. The Legislature has tried a few times, but there are too many touchy, feely, liberals in this state and now a liberal Dem Governor.
No word yet on whether he was drinking, which sounds like the case here.
Why would anybody be deer hunting with a SKS anyway?
Sawyer County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle said Chai Soua Vang, 36, of St. Paul, Minn., was arrested by a Department of Natural Resources warden just before dark about 4 p.m. on a road about one mile from the scene, just across the Sawyer County border in Rusk County.
Vang was armed with an SKS semiautomatic assault rifle, a weapon that's similar to a 30.06 but seldom used by deer hunters, Zeigle said.
There was a book called "Shoot" which was based on something like this.
from the article; "The dead included a a teenage boy and a woman, Zeigle said. A father and son were among them, he said. Some of the victims were shot more than once."
The SKS is more like to 30-30 in ballistics.
We just drove up from the Twin cities yesterday (sunday) at that exact time to the fairly nearby Burnett Dairy Coop to get their fabulous half price Wisconsin cheese.
What a tragedy.
