Yes. You can feel his thought processes while he trys to comprehend and explain something that violates everything he knows about 'the Heavens'.

Did a bit of googling and it looks like there is some doubt to the story based on the lack of ejecta and meteor shower activity which should have been present after such a large strike. Although they certainly saw something.
I found this site which has some shots of flashes from leonids impacting the moon. Not too spectacular but interesting. http://iota.jhuapl.edu/lunar_leonid/

Way cool. Can't wait to see what is on top of the pole.
Several years ago a bigger meteorite hit a carport, punched the roof, and dinged the car underneath. The owner of the car, who "owned" the space rock, sold the meteorite to collectors for some good cash.
A tiny bit like this would most likely be destroyed on impact.
What fun!

Not to split hairs, but the article misuses a very simple term with surprising consistency. A 'meteorite' is technically the remains of a meteor that have reached a planet's surface without having completely disintegrated upon entry. Rocks that haven't yet penetrated the atmosphere are 'meteoroids.' Looks like paying attention in 4th grade science finally paid off.

What exactly in the meteorite caused the flash in the image?
