Just finished watching this week's edition of Inside the NFL on HBO and in the first ten minute segment Bob Costas, Dan Marino, Chris Collinsworth and Cris Carter talked about the incident from the Pacers/Pistons game in Detroit last Friday night and the implications for the NFL. In summary Bob Costas blamed fan behaviour in Detroit and in general on talk radio, a totally outrageous statement.
That's right. I did not mean anything but the spelling of that word which is more common in the UK and British Commonwealth countries as opposed to "behavior" in the USA.
I recently spent an hour trying to explain to a friend in England what we mean when we say one "billion" dollars. When they say "billion" on that side of the pond they mean the same number we call one "trillion." They have no special word for $1,000 times 1,000. Just a quirk that's all.
My guess is that he means sports talk radio, and even then he is offbase.
I agree on what you say about Jim Rome, but the way Costas said "talk radio" tonight you could tell he was referring to someone like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. IMHO of course. Over the next few days you can tune in to the replays of the show, listen and form your own opinion on what Costas said and how he said it.
That's what I was thinking. Maybe he meant sports talk radio.
b*stard.
on the up side, Green Bay at Houston was their game of the week :)
Costas is a perfect example of how someone gets drawn into the "establishment". I thought Costas was very respectful in introducing Bush during the 2002 Olympics. However, his star rose in 2003 when he backed liberal Tim Robbins during the MLB Hall of Fame's cancellation of Bull Durham. The media recast him from a small, obnoxious sportshost to an expansive, free thinker whose views should be respected. In the media and entertainment industry, it's a much easier life to fall into the "in-crowd" of leftists than forumlate your own point of view. I think Costas is pretty much a mouthpiece for the left-wing establishment at this point.
I could rip his throat out! :) Sorry, I was just listening to John Zigler on KFI in Los Angeles.
He hasn't changed much in 16 years. He was a big Dukakis supporter in 1988, and that's when he started a hosting a late night talk show in NBC. If you ever saw 15 minutes of that show, you'd know he's about as far left as Keith Olberman, Tim Robbin, Susan Sarandon, and John McEnroe.
I doubt it. I've heard Costas make incredibly snide comments about Pres. Bush. He's a Class A, liberal jackass.
< The average "talk radio" fan wouldn't be caught dead at an NBA game. >
LOL. My thoughts exactly.
Inside the NFL has been all down hill since Costa came on board, just aa bullshit artist.
Costas should be forced to apologize. John Saunders (ESPN's "bunch of punks" a-hole) should be fired and blackballed.
Quick true story about Costas and baseball. He was participating in a celebrity/old-timers game at Busch stadium in St. Louis a few years back. In his first at-bat he tries to lay a bunt down the third base line against a 60+ year old Bob Gibson. It trickled foul. Gibson zinged the next pitch right by Costas' ear.
I think maybe that Costas has covered too many Olympic Games for NBC at this point and the socialistic theme of the Olympic charter has rubbed off on him from the likes of Juan Antonio Samarach (<-- spelling is probably wrong).
