WASHINGTON - Senator Prescott Bush said today that Congress might have to face the "unpleasant necessity" of raising taxes to hold the line against inflation.
The Connecticut Republican in a speech to the Senate, did not say when such an increase might have to be voted. But he warned that every effort must be made to fight inflation because it was "the Soviet Union's potentially most dangerous weapon in the 'cold war'. "
Charles A. Halleck of Indiana, House Republican leader, said after a White House conference yesterday that a tax-cut was possible within the "next two or three years", if the Democratic-controlled Congress cooperated with President Eisenhower.

Sorry, just to show how times have changed (thankfully). Prescott was also one of the few Republicans in the Senate to oppose JFK's huge tax cut.

It would have been nice if the USSR, before we pulled the rug out from beneath them, to have collapsed China as well.

nwrep, you are bordering on sadistic! I did the mother of all double-takes when I read the headline. It was an interesting read, though.

Prescott was also one of the few Republicans in the Senate to oppose JFK's huge tax cut. Prescott didn't get it. George Hebert Walker didn't get. George W. gets it!

Not funny or relevant. You know how little it takes for the dems to start rumors.
To: nwrep
HAHAHAAA!
That was funny. I was a little shocked.

Grandfather was for raising taxes. The father raised taxes in spite of his lips, and now the current one is overseeing a massive government growth campaign.
