Bush Calls for 'Full and Open' Probe of UN Oil-for-Food Program
CNS News ^ | 12/2/04 | Randy Hall

President Bush Thursday said he expects a "full and open" investigation of the United Nations oil-for-food program but would not state if he thought U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan should resign.

"I look forward to the full disclosure of the facts, get an honest appraisal of that which went on," the president told reporters in the Oval Office. "And it's important for the integrity of the organization to have a full and open disclosure of all that took place with the oil-for-food program."

While meeting with Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Bush added: "It's very important for the United Nations to understand that there ought to be a full and fair and open accounting of the oil-for-food program.

"In order for the taxpayers of the United States to feel comfortable about supporting the United Nations, there has to be an open accounting," Bush said.

However, the president would not state whether or not he agrees with Sen. Norm Coleman of Minnesota, who Wednesday called on Annan to resign. Coleman claims that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein reaped $21.3 billion from the program because of Annan's lack of oversight.

"In order for the taxpayers of the United States to feel comfortable about supporting the United Nations, there has to be an open accounting," Bush said.

Probably the most simple, yet powerful statement he could make.

Probe em and kick them out of the U.S. and save us all money. It consists mainly of a bunch of socialist and tin horn dictator contry's who hate us. Sort of like my giving money to my ex-wife.

Now if he would just call the UN and tell them to get the H E L L outta the USA

He's handling it perfectly. He has called for thorough investigation.

It's up to Congress to do the rest, and Norm Coleman has stepped up to the plate.

The is exactly how it is supposed to work. Bush has given Coleman a green light.

And once we're done doing the full and open probe of the scandal, some fellow inmate is going to do the same on Koffi.

Oil-For-Food has been brewing since The Bent One(tm)'s term. Now that Marc Rich has surfaced in the middle of this, I have to wonder if ol' Dubya held his peace when we were all calling for him to bring us x42's head on a platter because he knew that when this finally went down, x42 would get what was coming to him too.

And then Clinton could replace Kofi. Kill two birds with one stone's throw move across the Atlantic.
