Advocates of Marx's Theories on Socialism Testify Before Senate
The New York Times Archives [NO LINK] | September 21, 1883

Posted on 12/04/2004 11:11:41 AM PST by nwrep

Sep 21, 1883: Karl Marx's theories on Socialism were expounded at length yesterday before the Senate Committee on Labor and Education by Dr. Adolph Douai of the Volks-Zeitung.

Mr. Erastus D. Goodwin, a farmer from Falls Village, Conn. appeared as an advocate of "free trade", or at least a change in the tariff which would permit the importation of raw materials free of duty. Such a change would, in his opinion, be of great benefit to both the agricultural and industrial laborer.

At today's hearing, Mr. F.B. Thurber will be heard in advocacy of anti-monopoly principles.

I saw both points of view by taking it in different contexts. Initially I didn't read your post just NnB's reply to Edge's #22. After I read your post I felt slightly different. But by then you and NnB were at each other. If Edge is a troll he didn't have the orbs to come out and say what he meant. But our country has always had suspicion of immigrant groups even when legal. Illegals in mass are a product of more recent history, late 70's to present and cause a justifiably heightened suspicion.

Anyway I like you both and say, let's go look for big old bold trolls.

Since my husband's family lives so far away, and since I am estranged from my own family, we mostly keep it to just the three of us and some friends over the holidays.

I absolute REFUSE to fly over Christmas, so that in itself saves a lot of stress.

Mosotly what it is is being comepletly unwilling to subject Caitlin to the same sort of miserable stuff I got to endure when I was growing up.

Drunkeness, shouting and people getting smacked around is NOT a healthy tradition.

So I pretty much dropped out.

We do fun, quiet things at home, instead... Caitlin and I usually do a few 4-H projects, one or two special foods, music in the house, and there is usually time for a movie or two or an ice-skating trip.

Caitlin has plenty of time to play with her new toys, and this year she will have the kids in the new neighborhood to play with.

It's just saner this way.

Spokesman for Qatari Ministry of Labor:

This is lie! All posts from Qatar-based freepers come from native-born Qataris!!!

Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf:

What you have just read from the Qatari spokesman is another typical lie, concocted by Hollywood special effects. The Qatari Minister of Labor is in fact not in Qatar or even Bengal, but is many thousands, perhaps millions of miles away, hiding in fear like the mustaches of dogs. Meanwhile the mighty army of Saddam Hussein continues to occupy the capital of Qatar, where the armies of the FReepers are trapped, with their stomachs roasting. We have blocked them inside the city; their rear is blocked. My feelings--as usual--we will slaughter them all. We will welcome them with bullets and shoes.
