HOBART, Ind. - A woman's effort to assuage her 6-year-old son's fears of his grandfather's ghost by selling it on eBay has drawn more than 34 bids with a top offer of $78.

Mary Anderson said she placed her father's "ghost" on the online auction site after her son, Collin, said he was afraid the ghost would return someday. Anderson said Collin has avoided going anywhere in the house alone since his grandfather died last year.

When our 15-year old daughter was three, we had to lock up her 'mean friend, Fardydardy' in a jar. Sometimes she wanted her out but not at night.

After a few months of this we took the jar to a park and let her go.

It might be rather difficult to confirm the delivery of goods sold; wouldn't it be easier just to donate the ghost? Say, by telling her son that the ghost was dropped in a SA kettle...

I'll bet you're sorry you didn't keep Fardydardy in the attic until eBay was invented!

Description

Please help my 6 year old son find peace. In an effort to quell his fears, I am auctioning the ghost of my father (his grandfather). The winner will receive his well-used cane. I would like to ask you to write a letter after you've received the cane (and the ghost) to my son letting him know that he's there with you and you're getting along great. It is my hope that this will put an end to his restless nights. Thank you all for your help and heartfelt interest.

Kind of like the Simpson's episode where Bart sells his soul on a piece of paper for $5.00

You gotta love a free market economy.

Absolutely. It's amazing that something that depends on the sanity of it's participants can tolerate such insanity.

It is up to $610.00 now.

I guess the cane might be worth $610. I hope the winner writes a very nice letter to the little boy saying that the ghost is well and the two (ghost and winner) are having a grand time.

Fardydardy is a cute name for an imaginary friend. My daughter had two of them. One was Susie and the other was Itsy. And yes, Itsy was a spider.

This seller's one other auction is a 2003 college text. Judging from this, my guess is that she's a single mom, taking college courses in the evening, working part/full-time during the day, and looking for some extra $$$$. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose.

If ebay lets her sell this, I know where I'm going to get rid of some ghosts from my past.
