Witnesses: Jury Wrongly Convicted Peterson

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — In tearful testimony, Scott Peterson's (search) family and friends pleaded with jurors to spare his life, contending that he was mistakenly convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Laci.

Defense witnesses have already testified that Peterson sang to seniors on Sundays, distributed food and clothes in Tijuana and that he was a good friend and loving son.

On the fifth day of the trial's penalty phase, Peterson's relatives questioned the jury's verdict.

"I don't believe he's guilty," said his uncle, John Lathamke to see him die. It would tear our family apart."

But jurors showed no expression, some even looking away or toward the ground as Latham spoke.

Testimony in the seven-month-old trial's penalty phase was set to continue Tuesday and run into the next day before closing arguments. Jurors were expected to begin deliberating Thursday whether to sentence Peterson to life without parole or the death penalty.

Peterson was convicted Nov. 12 of one count of first-degree murder in the death of his pregnant wife, Laci, and one count of second-degree murder for the killing of her fetus.

Prosecutors say he smothered or strangled Laci Peterson (search) in their Modesto home on or around Christmas Eve 2002, then dumped her body into San Francisco Bay. The remains of the victims were discovered about four months later a few miles from where Peterson claims to have been fishing alone the day his wife vanished.

I just read where the drag queen who claimed Snott picked
him up in a gay bar and took him home to Laci's bed, PASSED
the polygraph attesting to same!

I'm gonna certinly get flamed on this one but I'm sick and tired of hearing about this drumhead trial. Peterson was tried, convicted, and will be sentenced by the media and nothing more.

Not one shread of physical evidence with the exception of one lousy hair. Circumstancial evidence all the way.

All baszed on the fact that Laci was kinda cute and preggers. One wonders what the outcome would have been had she been plain as a mud fence.

Odd you should say that; some of the reporters on Court TV have been speculating that Jackie and Lee ARE running this entire show.

IMO, Geragos lost interest in this case the day the judge put a gag order on the whole lot of them; after being on Larry King Live and saying that Scott Peterson was absolutely, positively guilty as hell and no attorney could get him off, he took the case within days; the only explanation is that TV camera!

Suffice it to say, that Laci and Conner are not the only people Scott "murdered." Geragos' career is dead, too.

You throw the weights over first and then the body...pretty easy really....(Have had several boats of the same size)

Exactly.
Plus, he didn't plan this murder so carefully
only to have unforeseen trouble during the disposal.

That erroneous statement proves you haven't paid attention.
Much of the media were surprised by the guilty verdict.

Of course, you were sitting in court everyday and heard
all the evidence the jury did, right?

I saw that special too.
CA's only death chamber is housed in San Quentin,
but I am rather hoping Snott gets life without parole
because I think he'll be killed by fellow prisoners
long before the state would ever get around to executing
him.

I don't think Scott did it either. No evidence whatsoever.

No evidence whatsoever.

Why would there be evidence if he smothered her in the very place she lived?

actually I think he did it, but maybe with help or maybe NOT the way the prosecution said. This guy was found guilty with LOTS less evidence than what OJ was found NOT guilty with. Meaning there was alot more evidence that OJ was guilty than this guy Scott.

To another poster, I know how long the Judge has been on the bench, but dont think for one moment that he or other judges dont try to hurry cases up.

I think of all the people over the last few years that have been exonerated. Why were they exonerated? Because of JUDGES and Lawyers putting someone in jail in a "Hurried" fashion just to get the case over with.

By the way, throwing 100lbs of dead weight over a boat without it tipping can not be done! this was even shown on Fox news. Why do you all think the Judge would NOT allow that one piece of evidence?? Because it would have put doubt into the Jury's mind!

He could have thrown her over the front or the back... Also, what if he used his feet to nudge her over the edge while he used his used his torso as a counter weight.

Been on your mind for "months"?
Heck, the jury sat thru 5 months
of testimony, and ONLY then rendered
their verdict.

Lethal injection is too humane for this scumbag.

Not on circumstantial evidence. Life sentence is what is should be, not death.

amen!

http://www.theconservativerepublican.com/scottpeterson.html

Read the article above. It shows why he was found guilty. I know it, you know it, the Judge knows it, and any other intellectually honest person on this forum knows it.

Smothering her in bed would leave no evidence.

Are you saying that if you kill someone in a manner that doesn't leave blood or body fluids, it is OK?

A 5 month trial is a real "hurry-up" thang, isn't it?

I think so too. I'm still wondering about the missing college coed where he went to college. Cops wanted to question him but he left college and went back to California. There was a lake whereever that was, N Mexico? Arizona? He lies so easily and never shows emotion that it makes you wonder. He only broke down yesterday because jurors were not showing any interest in what his family was saying. I say he has been excused his whole life for things by his parents. Wierd that his grandfather was murdered!

Anyone ever been on a lake in the same sixe boat as Peterson and tried throwing 100lbs of dead weight overboard?? Cant do it, without tyhe boat tipping.

It is definitely against the odds to be able to pull that off. And the jury jumping in the boat while it is on the trailer - not in the water - then coming to a verdict after announcing they were deadlocked. And what about the two jurors that were thrown off? Was the first one to go a hold out? The second one leaning towards guilty and tossed from the jury to event the score like a referee making a second bad call to make up for an earlier bad call?

yes it is, some trials have lasted lots longer than that...Maybe you have never known someone close to you to have been charged in a crime and see what the Prosecutors and Judges do firsthand. If they believe a person is guilty, screw that persons rights to a fair trial. Sorry you dont see that.
