Rocking For Christ

The growing clout of America's 100-million evangelical Christians is being heard loud and clear. Just turn on your radio, and you'll notice that a seismic shift in American culture is taking place.

Before, you could tune into different stations, which offered different music and different messages.

But now, as Correspondent Bob Simon reports on 60 Minutes Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT,, evangelical Christian music is flowing into mainstream media -- and changing it. In fact, Christian entertainment now brings in $4 billion a year.

Rappers and rockers are making hits and making money while spreading the gospel to national audiences. Christian groups can be heard on secular radio and seen on "The Tonight Show." Earlier this year, the group Third Day even played at the Republican National Convention.

"The fact that there are Christian themes now emerging in rock and that Christians are in rock is just representative of a spiritual desire or a spiritual hunger in our culture," says Cameron Strang, publisher of Relevant Magazine, a religious publication.

The gospel is pretty rude. It comes right in and says Damn You or Save You... pick one.

It all boils down to the fact that some people on this thread are much like the people in the 70s and 80s who caused the "Satanic Panic" in the 80s - something that turned off many many people, and did more harm than good, imho.

Do the classify their Gospel music as "Rhythm and Blues"? I don't think so.

Sure they do. "Life After Death Records" is a label that I could cite as an example...

"Is God so desperate to communicate with mankind that he would use this kind of music?"

He was desperate enough to die a messy, butcherous death on filthy wooden poles.

There is NOTHING sinful, vulgar or obscene about the way Christ sacrificed Himself for our sins.

And there is nothing about His death on the cross that justifies compromising the Gospel message with worldly decadant music.

Yes, I know...let's try to switch the discussion away from this back and forth that is worthless and divisive...

Have you checked out this guy's testimony? Let me know what you think of it. This is a fairly new band. It's amazing what God has done in this guy's life. Quite a miraculous conversion:

So, during Medieval times, when they wrote lots of Hymns and stuff for the church, they did it in the popular music of the time (normally found in pubs, taverns, inns, whatever) - which was decadent and worldly.

Guess we can't even sing the old stuff, lest we be "compromising the Gospel message" eh?

If the Gospel message can be compromised, then God isn't all that powerful is he ?

Once the gospel truly grips something, it ain't of the world anymore.

Where did I ever say "popular music" was necessarily "decadent and worldly"?

All indicators point in that direction.

It was plenty "vulgar" to the devil. He was thrust out of heaven on his, well, keister.

A nice sanitary cross, you will never see.

God grants mankind free will. And people can compromise the Gospel message if they like. But not without consequence.

Another claim he didn't say what he said. It's becoming a pattern.

Christmas is purported to be a celebration honoring the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. By simply and honestly examining the history, the scriptures and the actual practices of Christmas, it may be easily seen that it is truly a work of Satan foisted on an unsuspecting and willingly gullible humanity.

I checked out that site - Christmas is THE DEVIL! Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

(Now I don't feel so guilty about stealing the Baby Jesus from the town Nativity Scene when I was a kid...)
