Iranian Missile Could Reach Eastern U.S.

The latest generation of missile technology currently being engineered by Iranian scientists will be able to reach the continental United States, former Israeli ambassador to the U.N. Dore Gold said Saturday.

Asked what Israel would do if Tehran began producing nuclear weapons, Gold told the Fox News Channel's Cal Thomas, "This is not just an Israeli problem. The missiles being developed in Iran have a range that goes well beyond Israel. "Certainly they have the Shihab-3 missile, with a range of 1,300 kilometers, that can strike Israel," he said. "But they're developing the Shihab-4 for hitting Europe and a Shihab-5, with Russian missile technology, that can strike the Eastern Seaboard of the United States."

Gold called Iran's capacity to launch a nuclear attack on most of the Western world a "global problem in which European governments, the United States and Israel have to come up with a solution."

And all US ICBMs can reach Iran. I wonder if any are already targeted?

"You really think we would give a full nuclear response? I think we would do a lot of hand wringing and issue some arrest warrants. Congress does not want to give this president a declaration of war, would give him too much power and castrate the ACLU."

Actually, if the US got nuked by the rags, I think we would indeed retaliate. And even the libs would back us if it was in a blue state.

Officially? No. We have pledged under the Non-Proliferation Treaty to NOT use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear powers.

Unofficially? We've done targeting studies.

If Iran suddenly announces that it's a nuclear power by nuking New York or Boston, those "targeting studies" will be relabeled as a "war plan," which will then be executed.

I didn't know that was part of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Thanks for the info. It sheds new light for me on the remaining Axis Of Evil's posturing and acts.

& what would the US gain if it loses 1 city & destroys the whole of Iran??

The US & other democracies like India & Israel value human life,so all these nations have desisted from taking the plunge despite being pushed to the brink(barring 1945,but the circumstances were different).The same cannot be said about Pakistan,Iran, or North Korea-all these nations are run by semi-paranoid dictatorships or the military & have been thick on proliferation.Pakistan won't hesitate to hit Mumbai,even if it's own territory is sent into the history books.The same can be said of Iran or North Korea.

If we lose a city to Iran, then paybacks are hell. What would we gain? In the long run, we would have dealty world terrorism a terrible blow. Iran is as great if not a greater threat to world peace than is North Korea.
