What will death row be like for Peterson? (From someone on death row)

What will death row be like for Peterson?

A considerable amount of mail flows into my cell from people out there in the world asking what it's really like living day-to-day on San Quentin's Death Row. I'm always tempted to quip, its's a hell f a lot better than dying here. But then I really don't know if that's true -- yet.

I answer every letter even if the writer is rapidly pro-death penalty. It's easy for me to understand their attraction to the concept of killing convicted murderers. In the abstract, the death penalty has an elegant Newtonian -- for every action there is an opposite reaction -- symmetry that easy harmonizes with the Old Testament -- eye for an eye -- overtone which strikes a reassuring resonance within a majority of citizens.

Oooops! I apologize for misreading your remark. Geeze, how embarrasing! Guess I'm used to hearing the remark, "I strongly disagree" and got a bit crosseyed.

I'm not pro-death penalty

I thought I was strongly pro death until this case. Even though he probably did it I just can't help but ask-how was she murdered and why isn't there more physical evidence linking him to the murder. Maybe the jury saw and heard things that I am not aware of but I really wonder if the death penalty is appropriate here. I would hate to put someone to death if by chance they are innocent. And I really feel for his parents. There has been too much death already. I don't think killing him is going to make things better.

Peterson won't die in my lifetime. Tonight, I heard that he will join over 600 people on California's death row.

Besides, the appeals process hasn't even begun. Geragos probably has dozens of issues that would get Snotty a new trial. I'm with you, the puke will die of old age. Maybe behind bars, but maybe not. Geragos had a lot of his own personal reputation at stake here, nobody's going to pay him megabuck fees for a guilty verdict and the top of the penalty range.

The Pope is christian and yet he opposes the death penalty. Oliver North is a christian, and he too opposes it.

I get the feeling this girly-man is going to be someone's girl friend in short order. Hopefully he'll do himself in like some of his would have been neighbors have done. I hope he pays and pays for his crime.

I'm not pro-death penalty

I am not for abortion either. (oh, were you talking about executing murderers and granting closure to the survivors?)

"Sure, they failed. But, to squander their life's savings on lawyers for this psychopath they created is just a shame."

How can you blame what Scott did on his parents? Were they there helping him kill Laci and Conner? Were they telling him what to do?

Too many innocent people have been put to death

Just out of curiosity, could name one?

I wrote a report on that subject- Those mistakes were mostly due to lack of DNA evidence. It was DNA that exonerated most of them.

Now that we have such advanced DNA evidence testing it will be more unlikely that the innocent will be convicted of murder.

I could name many because, like I said, I wrote a paper on it. There was a significant problem in Illinois- more than 100 exonerated. But like I just said, that was due to new DNA technology and it will become less likely that the innocent will be convicted. You can get DNA off of almost anything. It's only going to get better too.

I'm pro-death by the way. I just put myself in the victims family's place. If someone killed my parents or someone dear to me I'd kill them myself.

Well, my question was to name a person who was executed in error, say in the last 30 years. I'm not saying it never happens, it's just that I can't recall a single instance.

"be rehabilitated and sent to a half way house".

ACK! And double ACK!

May that day never come.

There has been too much death of innocents, and too little of the guilty. The problem with death penalty is that people think of death as always "bad". If someone is guilty of murder, getting the death penalty helps to expiate some of their sin (use the word "karma" if you like). Wipes some of the slate clean. Some. So wherever Peterson (or any murderer) goes after death (we're talking the soul, obviously, not the dead body), the suffering he had to experience because of the execution will halp pay for the suffering he caused. With the added benefits of he will never kill anyone again, and the fear and pain may help him take what he's done more seriously, and give him a chance to pray to God for forgiveness.

I used to be a bleeding heart liberal. Many years ago I read an article by another former bleeding heart liberal, who used to teach creative writing in CA state prisons. He wanted to help the prisoners express themselves, and get rehabilitated, and he figured a lot of them came from poor backgrounds, had hard lives, and so on.

After 15 years of this, he made a complete turnaround in his attitude. He used to be against the death penalty, and realized after talking and getting to know literally thousands of prisoners, he became a death penalty advocate. He experienced that none of them (except ONE) actually took any responsibility for their actions - it was all "her" fault, society's fault, their parents' fault, the dog's fault, the cops' fault, the judge's fault. To a man, they considered themselves innocents who just didn't get an even break, while maintaining an exploitative and user mentality to the end.

And, pray tell, who wants to pay for incarcerating all these murderers? I don't.

Send them on their reward or destination; it's actually merciful to everyone concerned.

Check out the New Testament Book of Revelation--when judgment begins on earth. This too is Jesus, merciful AND bringing final justice. When the innocent are slaughtered, it is a loving God that vindicates them.

When the Petersen's said that they had no more money to pay, I wonder how much the state offered to pay for his continued defense. What ever it was, I think that it was too small for Gregos, for he is into the big time, you know, and then he seemed to lose all interest in the defense, and he was not even there when Petersen was sentenced to death. Gregos seems like a big jerk to me.

Deu 19:11 But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:

Deu 19:12 Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
