European social model must be modernised, says Barroso
EU Observer ^ | Dec 14 2004 | Honor Mahony

For Europe's Social Model to survive, the EU has to become economically more dynamic, European Commission President José Manuel Durão Barroso has said... Several of the comments from MEPs concerned a services directive which proposes to liberalise a range of services, including healthcare. A principle contained within the directive meaning that service providers are subject to the laws of their country of origin rather than where the service is actually provided has caused concern among left of centre politicians... Replying to these concerns, Mr Barroso said, "I do not think it is impossible to make the requirements of economic efficiency compatible with the concerns for social justice".

There is no "social justice", there is justice, and there is injustice. Either "social justice" is injustice, or it's just another BS buzzword of the so-called Left.

By "modernized" I think he means "market-based". :') Just in case they haven't heard over in Europe, the USSR -- the wet dream of the EuroLeft -- fell apart over ten years ago because it never was viable, but had a lot of WWII surplus bullets.

"Without growth, without job creation, without more dynamism in our economies we cannot maintain the high levels of social insurance, protection and environmental protection which ... we call the European model", Mr Barroso told MEPs on Tuesday (14 December).

In other words: Without growth, without job creation, without more dynamism in our economies (THE AMERICAN MODEL), we cannot maintain the high levels of SOCIALISM...we call the European model"...

ONLY private enterprise creates jobs that create things that create jobs that create wealth that create more private enterprise.

No government ever created a job that created anything but a government worker.

Some over there seem to be heeding our motto:

"Should we be more like them, or they like us?"

As we have constantly emphasized, the world needs to leve behind the legacy of the French Revolution, and, after a hiatus of some 150 years or so, study and emulate the American one.

...study and emulate the American one.

That's not likely; but even so, America must be a revolutionary force in the world in order to preserve its own revolution.

The statists or socialists, or whatever one chooses to call them, will never be converted - they can only be toppled from power.

Long live the Revolution!

Barroso denies holiday wrong-doing

EUOBSERVER/BRUSSELS - The European Commission has rebuffed claims that president Jose Manuel Barroso and trade commissioner Peter Mandelson acted improperly by accepting luxurious holidays from wealthy friends.

But the Commission's attitude, that officials do not need to declare gifts given while they are off-duty and that the college can police its own conduct, has ruffled feathers among some UK MEPs.
