I just got a call. The Mother-in-law was due to leave Union Station in DC heading for Raleigh. The Station has been evacuated and police and sirens all over. I'm cubicle bound. Any info on the news?
Bump for news? The wife is a little distraught right now because she sensed a lot of concern from her mom.
Perhaps a cigar smoker was observed entering the facility.

Union Station Evacuated Because of Fumes
Friday October 29, 2004 8:54pm
Washington (AP) - Hundreds of people were cleared out of Union Station Friday night for about an hour because of paint thinner fumes wafting throughout the building.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said workers were using paint thinner on the train platforms, and the fumes got into the building's ventilation system. The result was a chemical odor throughout the complex.
Firefighters had to air out the building.
The train station, metro station, shops and restaurants were evacuated shortly after seven p.m., but people were allowed back in about an hour later. No serious injuries were reported.
Whoops,sorry, old article
I'll keep searching for something valid
It's the one's who use cigars for other purposes that worry me
Things usually break here first and it takes 15 minutes to a half hour for the "media" to catch up.
Probably someone got caught eating a Snickers bar, forcing the police to cordon off the area.
Seriously, I wouldn't be concerned. These things happen on a pretty regular basis. It's probably something like a briefcase left there by some hungover commuter. Things will be back in operation shortly.
lol
Union Station, Kansas City, MO is fine.
With all due respect, I don't think paint fumes in October would cause an evacuation this morning...
That story is from October 29th. I am talking about as we speak, er type.
Heh, you caught it just as I posted...
Bumpity to see what's going on...
I just came from Union Station. The alarm started while I was in there. The automated alert only said that "an emergency was reported in the building"
'Specially when they're in office.

Oh, and 95% of the people seemed to ignore the alert, blinking stobes and all. I exited to the Metro, where I was headed anyway.
