I think the battle is more or less lost. Just today, I heard a person who I know is very religious wish another very religious person "Happy Holidays" I read him the riot act! He got the message, but I expect there's more like him.

...what they consider political correctness run amok.

Political correctness, by its very nature, is "running amok". There is no acceptable level of political correctness.

There is only truth, and common sense.

I'm starting to get frustrated .....we explain why PC is wrong, and yet the PC'ers don't stop!

In the small southern town where I grew up the Jewish merchants had no problem with having their newspaper ads with Santa Claus and the words Merry Christmas.

Not surprising. On one of my first jobs, the old Jew who owned the place LOVED Christmas, at least the trappings and secular aspects of it. The place was decorated, had a Christmas party he paid for out of his own pocket, and he liked carols, also. And in an entriely different industry, my wife also had a similar experience with another Jewish boss.

Jesus was a Jew. Judaism may doubt He was the "Real Thing Yet", but that does not mean they had to hate Him.

"Some ultra-conservative Christian groups"

Ohhhhh you're "ultra" conservative if you love the Lord and are just plain ole sick and tired of seeing the meaning of Christmas (you know the birth of Christ!) being diminished year after year in the name of commercialism and political correctness.

Hmmmm,..... Maybe all us folks in 'Jesusland' should boycott both the commercialism and PC?

How about next year we only celebrate the birth of Christ?

How about next year we give presents to people when we want to?

Comments anyone?

"Why not simply require stores owned by Jews to put a gold star in their ads and on their storefronts?" the Rev. Jim Melnyk, associate rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Raleigh, wrote in a letter to the editor."

... there were some threads on an Episcopalian priest and his wife who were also Druid priests.

This makes me embarrassed and ashamed of being raised (High) Episcopal..(Choirboy, Retreats in the Society of St. James monastary, etc.)!

First we have a Sodomite Bishop, now this. What next, a descent into "God Optional" Unitarianism?

So many of my young Christmas memories were centered around the church..decorating it with evergreen garlands, fellowship dances and first girlfriends, the Hymnal 1940.

And now this. I feel like someone crapped in the Font.

What a vile preacher. I'm guessing his flock is pathetically small.

We can only hope.

based on another FReeper's advice, I always make sure to say 'Merry Christmas' *especially* if I'm told 'Happy Holidays'.

I agree, especially then. 8-))

I think your last option is correct on the type of Episcopal Church. Here's the link:

Yesterday, as I was leaving Tiffany's,
the floor person wished me "Happy Holiday."

I asked "which holiday would that be?"

Floor person: "Whichever holiday you celebrate."

"Take a guess, " I told her.

"Christmas?" she asked.

"YES, so why not wish me a Merry Christmas?"

Answer: "we're not allowed to."

"He adds: "I think it's fair to say it's a mistaken notion that they have a mandate to put more nativity scenes up because George Bush was elected."

No; we have a mandate to celebrate Christmas because God came to earth to live and die as one of us that all might live through Him.

Thank! (I guess!) It says:

We understand and believe that faith is a matter of mind as well as heart, and that taking the Bible seriously means it need not always be taken literally…

Oh yeah?

"Should anyone add to them (These words) God will add to him the plagues described in this Book; Should anyone take away from the words in this Book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of Life and the Holy City, described in this Book".

But it looks like Reverend Feelgood lost interest in reading it LONG before Revelations!

We believe God's love embraces all persons equally, no matter their gender, race, or sexual orientation…

That does not deserve the dignity of a response, except that Reverend Feelgood got two out of three on that one.

We believe diversity, acceptance, and inclusivity are strengths to be taught…

I believe they are intrinsic properties of a Christian person and do not need to be "taught" because they are as natural as breathing. No, I suspect Reverend Feelgood means "diversity, acceptance, and inclusivity" as interpreted by the New York Times and the San Francisco Chronicle et al.

To Hell with him. It seems to be what he wants. *shrug*

I mourn for the old CoE, the beloved old New England WASP nest, though.

I won't be a Grinch in order to protest against the militant atheist. I'll still celebrate Christmas, and I'll still say Merry Christmas, and I'll still remember that it's about Christ's birthday =^D.

God Bless you.

Because according the Left we are the oppressors and the sight of a Christmas tree or a Nativity scene will cause any LLL to suffer mental anguish for having to think about great oppressor of the people. sarcasm off/
