GOP VOTERS STILL WANT GIULIANI FOR PREZ: POLL
New York Post ^ | 12/17/04 | IAN BISHOP

WASHINGTON — The stink of Bernard Kerik's rotten bid to become homeland security czar hasn't stuck to his chief cheerleader, Rudy Giuliani, who is a top pick for the presidency among Republicans, a new poll shows.

A whopping 68 percent of Republican voters want to see Giuliani run for the White House in 2008, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll — showing little fallout among the party base in the wake of Kerik's embarrassing exit.

[snip]

And it shows that if party faithful get their way, Giuliani would face off against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in an Empire State showdown — which Giuliani would win, 45 percent to 43 percent.

[snip]

Although she's a favorite among Dems, 50 percent of all voters don't want to see the former first lady run for the White House.

I have NO idea who we are going to go with in '08....

Well, that's what's going to make the GOP nomination interesting in '08. There probably won't be a George W. Bush bohemoth in the primaries as he was in 2000, so it's pretty much an open field. As for Rudy, I don't think he was going to run in '08 even before the Kerik revalations.

Well, think about the triangulation, ALL the liberals were hailing Kerry as a war hero during this election, saying that made him the right choice for president, Now Dole steps up to the plate, the sould HAVE to give him the same "positive coverage" or have their BIAS uncovered yet again... do ya follow me?

I like Bush. I voted for him twice. But let's make one thing very clear: a Conservative would not run up the debt; a Conservative would not assent to signing the Assault Weapons Ban (thank God it never passed Congress); a Conservative would not leave our borders wide open and bend over backwards for the corrupt Mexican government to make it easier for illegals to work here; and a Conservative would not be peddling this "religion of peace" bullcrap.

Again, I'm grateful that Bush defeated Gore and I'm grateful that Bush defeated Kerry...and I know that Bush is a man of deep faith, but a lot of his policies are decidedly NOT conservative.

Let me know why he's a great man. His politics and mine are VERY close in some ways, but I'd never vote for him. I know only one thing he did that was impressive, and that's cleaning up Times Square and the squeegee boys in NYC, but even that was not all that great. He was just doing what a mayor ought to be doing.

"Only a FReeper would fail to realize that Bush is the most conservative president in history and that it is a miracle that he got elected."

Totally disagree. We're probably going to be running against Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Now, what is Hillary's greatest weakness? Her policies? Her views change with each focus group. She could easily run to our right, get into office, and then do whatever she pleases. Probably not do much policy, and instead use her office for personal enrichment and retribution against her enemies, like her husband did.

Her greatest weakness is her lack of principle, and her opportunism. You beat her by having principles, values, a core set of beliefs. That's not many of these "front-runner" candidates. But it might be Rick Santorum, or Mark Sanford.

If we run a RINO, and especially a RINO with poor morals like Giuliani, there will be an equivalence between our candidate and Hillary. And this party will split down the middle, and she'll trample right over the RINO. Just like her hubby in 1992.

Would somebody please tell me one accomplishment he has outside the crime busting arena?

Helping getting other Republicans elected to Congress? I'm pretty sure Senators John Sununu and Jim Talent and others appreciate him using his post-9/11 popularity getting elected against tough Democratic opponents.

Does anyone really think that a former mayor of a city like NY
doesn't have a lot of skeletons and black bags in his closet?

Then keep him out on the stump, don't put him into elective office.

I guess it depends on the elective office IMO. Yes, he should not become president; however, without Rudy holding elective office, NYC would be much worse than Fallujah. And since New York was the fourth bluest state according to this past election, Rudy as governor or a senator of the Empire State would be very much appreciated . . . at least by me.

Rudy as governor (can't be any worse than Pataki and at least Rudy's instinct is to fight), head of DHS, or AG. I can live with him in any of them. Unfortunately, his ego demands that he go for the big prize. Too bad. The poll that scares the heck out of me is Ferrar leading Bloomberg for mayor. Granted, Bloomberg's basically a liberal Democrat. But he fulfills the on major requirement of a post-Rudy NYC mayor: Is he on the side of the cops of the race-baiters? "Ferrar" is how you say "Dinkins" in Spanish. Here's hoping there's another bloody Democratic primary.

ROFLMAO.

You have got to tell me why you think that Bush is the most conservative president in history. Please. I've already made the other folks in the office look at me for laughing at that comment. I need the laughs--please elaborate and give me another chuckle.

And as to Governors or Senators who are as conservative as Bush and (here's the rub) are positioned to run, no, because there are only two Pubbie Senators who are known nationally, noisy, and obviously angling, Trent Lott and John McCain. Not that many Pubbie guvs are out there nationally. Maybe Jeb Bush or Arnie or Pataki, but after that, recognition level as far as the voters go drops way down. Never mind that. There's a lot of noise to be made in Iowa and NH that will wake people up between now and 2008. Nobody knew who the heck Dean was before 2003. But there are far more options and they will be better known after the feelers start getting put out in Iowa and NH and the various straw polls.

My money is on a guy whose dad is better known nationally than he is--George Allen, R. Va.--but he's gotta get past Warner in the next election before anything else can happen.

Triangulation? He's too old to play the triangle! You must have that little blue pill on your mind. :)

I agree with what you're saying, but there is simply no way. I even like the guy--I think he's sharp and funny. But I just don't see a 100-year-old Bob Dole tramping around Iowa and NH again. It's not gonna happen.

Good analysis bump. That we are already worried about that bitch is a sign of how dangerous she is. I thought Bush v. Kerry was important, but the next election is going to be Nixon v. McGovern all over again. Hopefully, we'll get a real conservative finally instead of a Nixon, but I know the country is in real trouble if Hitlary gets in.
