Born-Again President -- White House Hanukkah
Los Angeles Times ^ | December 19, 2004 | Dennis Prager

Only in America does a president light a menorah while a Jewish choral group sings Hebrew songs and the Marine band plays American songs. Only in America do Jews feel so honored as Jews and yet so completely part of the larger culture, fully Jewish and fully part of the greater nationality. Non-American Jews (including even Canadians) are often amazed at how completely American Jews in the U.S. feel. We take it for granted, but as a former college lecturer in Jewish history, I know that this is unique.

Most Jews, including some at this celebration, still instinctively vote Democrat.

Sad.

Malachi 4: (KJV)

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

I have always believed that "the fathers" are the Jews and "the children" are the Christians.

Speaking as a Jew and a Republican since I was old enough to vote, I think more and more Jewish voters will come to see the Democrats as the wackos they've become exhibiting their anti-religious ways. My hope is that more and more Jews will break free of the Democrat mindset--that is if you think they even have a mind.

This year's White House holiday display has not only the Christmas tree and the Menorah, but a creche, some really cool toy trains, and an awesome fire pit full of large burning logs, and a sign explaining that they are Yule logs.

Anyone here know what "The Hannakah" song is? My grandson lamented not being able to sing CHRISTMAS songs (religious in tone, like Silent Night) but said they sung THE HANNAKAH Song at their School program.....just wondering.

Good article from Dennis Prager. Jews are slowly changing their views. About 30% voted for Bush this year - that's more the blacks and only slightly fewer than Hispanics. Christianity is good for Jews because it will keep America apart from Europe and an increasingly hostile Islam AND because it will keep Jews Jewish. Two good reasons to celebrate Hannukah this year and to wish a more Christian society for our Christian friends. Merry Chrismas to Freepers!

Well, there are many songs for Hannukah but since it was in a public school it was probably that stupid Adam Sandler song.

Its not likely you will see people like my father do it - old people are set in their ways. But younger Jews have fewer and fewer reasons to vote Democrat anymore, as Dennis indicated in today's article. We're witnessing a sea change in the American Jewish community. And change of this magnitude takes time to fully effect itself.

I have always believed that "the fathers" are the Jews and "the children" are the Christians.

The children could be 'the gentiles' since the Israelites were to be a linght unto the nations, and nations meant gentiles, and the gentiles were supposed to be grafted unto the Jews.

I don't think you can feel American if you don't support the Constitution -- 100%.
