Winning with hatred: The Republican agenda (Barf Alert!)
The Raw Story ^ | November 2004 | Dara Purvis

Posted on 12/21/2004 10:47:26 AM PST by The Loan Arranger

Tuesday night, I went down to the graduate student lounge in my college for an election night “party;” mostly just people camped out in front of the television with snacks and drinks. My idea for this column was to take along my laptop, which I did, and chronicle what an expat election party was like. Advertisement

I figured my fellow Trinity Hall students were good for some amusing and interesting quotes, which they were, and that any British students in attendance might provide a different perspective, which they did, and that even if the night didn’t go my way I could at least make lots of jokes about alcohol consumption.

But somehow I’m not up to editing through that night. I finally left at 6:00 in the morning, and laid awake in bed for half an hour unable to relax. When I finally went to sleep, I dreamed of the Electoral College. Now that, as I write this, I’ve gotten back up after a few hours and taken a painful glance at some news sites, it’s not any better.

What happened?

To tell the truth, I wasn’t expecting Kerry to win. But I wasn’t expecting this either. A score of homophobic bans on gay marriage passed. An attempt to reform the Three Strikes law in California to a more humane standard (and one that most people thought they were voting for when the original proposition passed) failed. The Senate Minority leader ousted for the first time in 52 years. The popular vote not only in Bush’s favor, but a few million people in his favor. The first actual majority vote for a President since his father in 1988.

Some thoughtful analyst like a Michael Barone ought to look at the role of the way the left and their MSM allies conducted this campaign, because I think much of the unity on the right was due to the actions on the left. I am also sick and tired of the vitriol, name-calling and condescension. I'm tired of Hollywood and the MSM thinking they can tell me how to vote.

There have been great divisions among conservatives over the policies of the Bush administration, as illustrated by many threads on FR the past few years. Yet I've not seen conservatives and Republicans this unified since the 1984 election and I'm not sure we were as unified then. I think the reason in large part is the antics of Michael Moore, Dan Rather and the rest of the MSM, the drumbeat of crap like this article. And we can't forget the sheer in-your-face effrontery of the Dims nominating the man who attacked all Vietnam veterans as war criminals in the U.S. Senate.

What ugly, petulant, immature people.

Yes, and they're the real haters too.

Look at this lovely message someone left to her:

My opinion is get Rove on his tricks. He seems to think that everything is fair game, then I assume his affairs, drug use, and the criminal records of his kids should be exploited. He is really the most horrific figure in American history. So there you go. Progessives spread out and speak to Karl Rove in the only language he can understand.

Several people have said they feel ashamed to be an American

The problem with the left is they have always been ashamed to be Americans. And what ever happened to the promised Exodus to Canada and France? Just like the left: say what you feel, not what you mean.

What she doesn't understand is that 'progressive' is not the proper definition of liberal behaviour.

The proper word is SELFDESTRUCTIVE, or is that two words.

they literally can't wrap their minds around the ideas and things that most of us in Flyover Country think is important or hold dear.

Exactly.

From the message board:

The truely sad thing of it is, those who put Bush back in office are the same ones being fleeced by his policies. Look at Ohio, which lost huge jobs, yet still gave its 20 to him. The military has large recruiment out of rural areas as well, and no wonder, when their schools are so bad and families so poor there aren't many options for the future..

The rural culture is very isolated and not particularly nomadic. People there believe strongly in their families and they hold tight to religious and moral values. Religion is indeed the opium of the people. It can be (and has been) twisted and manipulated in order to manipulate culture. But at the same time how we can we deny people the right to believe what they want?

I wish I knew what we could do exactly. One thing is for sure though. The USA is the biggest empire the world has ever seen, and the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

A score of homophobic bans on gay marriage passed.

So funny how they think people are afraid, or at least try to frame the arguement that way. Emotional, silly liberals. Differ? Yes. Afraid? No. Some sort of a phobia? No.

How much you wanna bet the poster of those comments has never spent much time in a rural community? I'm sure they consider driving through Nebraska on I-80 with no stops as experiencing rural culture.

I'm amazed at the number of my co-workers, friends, etc that have no clue what rural life is like. And how arrogant they are about it. Yet, they know it all. Whatever.

Last time I checked homosexuals can get married just like everyone else.

No homosexual has ever been denied the right to get married.

Damn straight!

And last time I checked a woman had the right to do what she wanted with her body....except sell a kidney, sexual favors (some Nevada counties excepted), get a tatoo on her face (again, some areas may be excepted), and the ultimate expression of self-ownership: commit suicide. But "progressives" don't seem to have too much heartburn about having very few "rights" over those body parts.

My father tells me that when I was a child, my first steps of political activism were charmingly naive—I was calling up stores in the mall at 10 years old to say that they shouldn’t sell fur because it killed animals, because I was so sure that if I could just tell them, they would change. I just assumed that people did bad things because they didn’t know that what they were doing was wrong, and if I showed them, they would stop. I don’t know when it finally came home to me that sometimes people do the wrong thing because they didn’t care about injustice, or that they hold values that make an unjust result seem to them worth striving for.

Unless this person is a Level 4 Vegan (won't eat anything that casts a shadow...), she is a complete jerk. Or maybe it is only the killing of cute furry animals that is immoral.

Progressive politics has never really been a discourse of hate—the closest we ever come is towards the rich white plutocrats oppressing the rest of the country, and apparently we can’t point them out as the enemy to the electorate because everyone is too busy wanting (hoplessly) to be them.

Liberal bigot. There are rich people of all nationalities. 5 of the 10 wealthiest people in the world were in the Middle East.

Michael Moore makes this same claim that "we" will never be rich. Fataxis Mikey sure has proven that claim to be so much flatulance as he has lined his pockets and climbed into the upper income brackets, million dollar homes, and all that.

I offer these progressive t-shirts to show that they most CERTAINLY do HATE, just as any totalitarian is capable of:

Class War: We Have Found New Homes For The Rich (note they are Christian graves)

Express Yourself (firebombed police car)

It's all about you, isn't it Dara! You slobbering little Peegressive.

I went down...

My idea ... was to take along my laptop, which I did...

I figured ...

...even if the night didn’t go my way I could at least...

But somehow I’m not up to editing...

I finally left at 6:00...

When I finally went to sleep, I dreamed...

...as I write this, I’ve gotten back up...

...I wasn’t expecting Kerry to win.

But I wasn’t expecting this either.

And I don’t know what to say.

I can’t even muster up the righteous anger...

...I’ve also heard a lot of disgust.

...I’ve heard “they deserve him”...

But I don’t think that will ever happen.

...I still can’t quite believe...

I can’t believe that...

I wish I had an answer.

While I swing between poles ... I am usually willing to believe in hope.

...I don’t know how much hope I can draw...

My father tells me that when I was a child, my first steps of political activism were charmingly naive—I was calling up stores ... because I was so sure that if I could just tell them, they would change.

I just assumed ..., and if I showed them, they would stop.

I don’t know when it finally came home to me...

I don’t know how to move on from this.

I guess that’s our modern dilemma.

Dara, you whiny, little, self-absorbed Tampon, get a life!
