Many of the conservative Christian groups that led the fight this year to ban same-sex marriage are sounding an alarm about efforts to block Christmas celebrations.
Representatives of the groups -- including the Alliance Defense Fund, the Thomas More Law Center and Liberty Counsel -- say the two issues, and other pending fights over public display of the Ten Commandments and teaching of evolution, are linked by a belief among religious conservatives that traditional values are under siege in the United States.
"The sentiment is the same for the same-sex marriage battle or for Christmas: It's the pervasive idea among religious people that traditional values are under attack from all different angles," said Erik Stanley, chief counsel for the Liberty Counsel.
Those on the other side of these battles say the Christian groups are wildly exaggerating the threats from a phantom enemy for the purpose of mobilizing evangelicals to contribute funds (some groups are explicitly using the Christmas issue to raise money) or to become politically active. On the Christmas fight, the American Civil Liberties Union, the group most often cited as the enemy of traditionalists, says it has not filed a single case blocking Christmas displays this year and cites half a dozen instances over the past year in which it has fought on the side of more religious expression.

Christmas day already here - and Santa is having a glass of wine before he delivers the toys.
The ACLU started the fight and we will finish it and them.
I didn't know I was a member of the Christian Right but if believing the traditional values of this country are under attack I guess I feel honored to be counted among others that feel the same...regardless of their religious fervor.

Nah. They're too busy sucking the marrow from the bones of joy filing stupid complaints like this:

The creeps who don't like Christ and Christmas are the extremists.
Some good news today about Christmas and the "right".
There is a bakery/coffee shop that is in an affluent area of town, during the election they had pictures of President Bush on their walls, needless to say that told you their political leanings, (thats why I go there often).
We went to pick up our order today for Christmas goodies and they were giving out free books by Swindoll, they gave out free coffee and cookies, and on their instruction sheet (how to warm up the goodies) at the top they had
"The staff of ___Cafe and Bakery wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and we pray God's richest blessings upon you and your family"
along with the scripture: luke:2:10-14.....
I was so pleased to see this in a multi-cultural affluent area, a business taking a stand for Christmas. Says a lot for Christian Republican business people. Of course they have my business all year long!
God Bless businesses like that!!!
Two problems with the approach taken in these lead paragraphs by this self-satisfied hypocrite, Dana Milbank, elite reporter for an elite newspaper, whose salary is well over $100,000 a year and whose expense account is virtually unlimited.
First, he has moved the cultural goal posts. He is the elite leftist; we are not rightists, but ordinary Americans who constitute a large majority of the country, i.e., the center.
Second, he has finessed the real question: is this a false and malicious charge, or is what these "conservatives" are complaining about true? Of course it is true. A small cadre of privileged elitists, with the help of judicial activists appointed to our courts by the likes of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and with the full support of the media and academia, have been attacking Christianity, prayer in the schools, Christmas in public, and all the rest of the countercultural agenda. There is no possible doubt that this is a legitimate and factual complaint.
So, why this oh-so-superior pretence that the people complaining are a bunch of right-wing creeps? You are the creep, Mr. Milbank.
The ACLU started the fight and we will finish it and them.
.......Separation of Church and ACLU......
How long has the ACLU been a subversive organization of a foreign-alien worldview?
Merry Christmas,....J.Edgar Hoover and James 'Merry Christmas' Angleton!
/sarcasm
I think the ACLU's court cases are stupid and carry the First Amenmdent too far. They have gone too far.
But the real tragedy of modern Christmas is the over-commercialization of a religious holiday. Not as part of any atheist strategy but retailers who are only interested in people buying more and more. Rejoicing the Word has been replaced with maxing out your credit cards.
Merry Christmas all )
My end of year wish is that 2005 be the year that true Americans take a STAND about this political correctness garbage and put the ACLU where it belongs. Sad that true Americans only means about 53% of the people, but let's do this while we have any chance at all. Soon it may be too late.
God bless our troups in harms way. Merry Christmas to all the military people, many of which are in harm's way and many who will feel a void because their loved ones are away.
I kneel before you in humility and respect for what you are doing for this country.
Merry Christmas!
Indeed a heartwarming story. If we support our own and refuse to support the businesses that support multiculturalism we will win in the end. Thanks.
Stretch: The old Geezer here... The ACLU started in 1919 by the Communist party. It has continued to be communist, socialistic organization. They are evil... as evil as Bill and Hitlery. In fact, they do the dirty work of the clintons...
In fact, an earlier post this morning spelled out clintons involvement in the prayer in schools in cahoots with the aclu. He colluded with Musllims and other liberal ministers to get passed Clinton's Ptresidential Guidelines, Religious Expression in Public School, which was originally drafted by the ACLU: pOSTED ON 12/22/04 AT 9:59:38 i CAN'T POST any of these articles. But a goodie....
Thank You,....and Merry Christmas!
(Maybe someone will re-post it as a 'Christmas Hate Thread'....)
Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks for the ping!
