Frey: Let Scott rot
NY Daily News ^ | MAKI BECKER

The death penalty is too easy for Scott Peterson, who should be forced to rot in prison for years reliving his crime, his former mistress believes.

Amber Frey, the willowy blond masseuse whose steely testimony about his web of deceptions sealed his fate, told NBC's Matt Lauer she would have preferred for Peterson to be sentenced to life in prison instead.

"I felt life [in prison] gives him every day to live with what has happened," she said in her first interview since her ex-lover's conviction. The interview also came just days before her memoir "Witness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson" is to be released.

"It's almost to me death is so much simpler ... You know that he doesn't have to live with that every day," Frey told Lauer in an interview scheduled to air on Monday and Tuesday on "Today" and "Dateline."

She became romantically involved with Peterson just weeks before he killed his eight-months pregnant wife Laci and dumped her body into San Francisco Bay.

Frey stayed out of the spotlight since her stunning admission at a 2003 press conference that she had been dating Peterson at the time of his wife's disappearance - and that he had lied to her about not being married.

Court testimony later revealed that when she realized her new boyfriend was the husband of the famously missing Modesto, Calif., woman, Frey agreed to help police by secretly taping phone conversations with Peterson. Those tapes annihilated Peterson's credibility during his trial, as he told her whopper after whopper while police searched for his missing wife.

Frey told NBC her "stomach was turning" as she waited for Peterson to call her. "I was shaking," she said. "My hands were just sweaty."

She also described watching Peterson doing TV interviews shortly after she went public with their affair.

She thought to herself "that he was just a piece of work ... There isn't any truth that comes out of this man's mouth. And I just saw him, you know, as this compulsive liar, I mean, pathological liar."

LACI'S HUBBY ADMITS: I KILLED HER!
FELLOW INMATE CLAIMS SCOTT PETERSON MADE SHOCKING JAILHOUSE CONFESSION!
by David Thompson
~synopsis~

"I killed my wife--I killed the b----."

This is the spine-chilling jailhouse confession made by Scott Peterson, accused of
murdering his pregnant wife Laci, a fellow inmate tells Globe in a world exclusive.

While professing his innocence in court, the salesman admitted several times to
slaying Laci, claims James Soares, currently housed with him in the County Jail.

Soares claims that Peterson first told him about the dark secret he's been hiding while
the two were in adjoining cells. At the time Soares says, they were sharing glasses of
home-made booze, called "pruno" in prison slang, which inmates ferment from fruit.
It was four weeks after Peterson's arrest on April 18.

"We were on our third or fourth glass, watching TV, when the news came on about Laci,
Soares said when suddently Scott blurted out, "I didn't mean it, Jimbo. I swear to God-
I didn't mean to kill my wife. It was an accident."

Soares says that Peterson said he wanted to take his own life over Laci's death.
"Scott's voice was filled with emotion," says Soares. "He told me,
"I feel like killing myself.. it's killing me inside."

But within three weeks, according to Soares, Peteron's attitude had changed
dramatically following a disappointing pre-trail court hearing over the double-murder
charge which left him furious. "Scott was in a foul mood," says Soares.

Incredibly Scott started to put the blame on Laci, for his being behind bars.
"It's all my wife's fault," "It's her fault I'm in this mess." Then says Soares,
Peterson made his bloodcurdling confession, I killed my wife--I killed the b---,
I just snapped and I hit her on the head with a club."

Although Scott later said he'd also hit her on the neck, he indicated the head blow
probably killed Laci. Soares said Peterson claimed, "I think it was over then, with that
one blow. I hated her. I never wanted to have kids.. never! We were arguing and I finally
snapped. That's why I hit her." Scott said he swung his club and hit her on the neck
as well as her head. I got the impression that he hit her more than
once and that he had broken her neck."

Soares says he suspects avid golfer Peterson may have used one of his golf clubs to
bludgeon Laci. Scott asked Soares, who is fighting for a new trial, if Soares got
released would he perform a special task for him.

"At first he asked me to break into the family home he shared with Laci and take his
golf clubs." Then, he said I could go along and pick them up when his parents where
there." He wanted to make sure I wasn't going to tell anyone they belonged to him.

"It sounded suspicious and told him I wasn't interested. That's when I realized when
he said he'd hit Laci with a 'club' he meant a golf club."

Soares admits he's no angel and has commited crimes in the past. He claims he is
coming forward now for the first time to talk about Peterson's confession, because he
is a marked man after speaking with the GLOBE in September for another interview in
which he discussed Scott's drug-taking and gay sex. He says he held off talking about
Scott''s confession because he feared for his life. Soares claims he was attacked by
a member of a prison gang as retribution for his last interview.

"What Scott did was horrible. I couldn't carry that around inside of me anymore. Even
though I broke the convict's code, I fell a lot better." He urges Peterson to do the same
and tell the truth. "Scott thinks he's a genius, but in a lot of ways, he's totally stupid."

"She's a "willowy blond masseuse" and was his "girlfriend?" Yeah right - she was probably just giving him 'happy endings' after the massages, which is prostitution...."

He'll only ponder "how the bodies managed to wash ashore."

He has no conscience about the murders.

The thing is (quoting you), some of these statements are flat out wrong. Being a massage therapist does not mean someone is a prostitute. Thank Heaven for the massage therapist who, after several sessions, alleviated my back and neck pain--when no doctor's potions could do the job. My massage therapist was a Christian woman, married with three kids, and attended our church.

I really find these blanket comments offensive and insulting. I would guess that most massage therapists are undeserving of these smears.

Whether or not Amber "slept around" after she worked, she was a licensed massage therapist, which gives her professional standing. We're not talking the "massage parlor" types where no license exists. Ever see one of the finals for these licenses? In most states, they are really tough--and if you don't pass, you don't receive certification!

Thank you for a sane post. It's just infuriating to read these juvenile snickering comments on this thread.

Yes, anyone can be a masseuse. But state-licensed massage therapists like Amber are not in that category.

Regardless of Amber.... Exactly how does having a state license remove a womans ability to completely service her clients ? Has the state started putting chastity belts on licensed masseuse's again ?

" I said some masseusses give handjobs at the end of the massage and some don't."

Now you've just repeated your ignorance. The only "masseusses" who give hjs at the end are not licensed massage therapists (or at least, they won't be licensed for long). They are prostitutes. What else do you call performing sexual acts for money? Or are you like Bill Clinton, and confused about what constitutes a sexual act?

There is a code of ethics massage therapists must adhere to if they are to keep their licenses. Selling sex would get the license pulled--and the little tart thrown into jail.

Because, Einstein, you lose your license. Why would you think a massage therapist more likely to be a prostitute than, say, a doctor or a nurse? All must deal with human anatomy. People on this thread snicker and guffaw when someone says "massage therapist" yet they don't when someone mentions a doctor or a nurse. Why is that?

"...With life he would be in the general population ...."

Nope.... "Scrutty" would, in the CA Penal (gotta watch how that is spelled) System (?) be a High Profile Inmate and treated like a king with special security throughout his incarceration.

Witness how Charles Mansion has survived all these years

At least the Death Row cells are smaller ...

A house of ill repute locally raided turned up more than one licensed massage therapist.......

People on this thread snicker and guffaw when someone says "massage therapist" yet they don't when someone mentions a doctor or a nurse. Why is that?

Because so far certain "services" are not generally advertised under the banner of a medical clinic, hospital, doctors office, etc.

Unless you count the guy who setup shop in a storage shed and claimed he was an OB and actually got some folks to see him before he was charged with sexual assault......

You're sick. One licensed massage therapist turns up in a prostitution bust, so they're all prostitutes? So I suppose you'll say my friend, who went to my church and was a wonderful Christian woman, is a prostitute just because she's a massage therapist? Sheesh.

Looks like there's no getting through some of these thick heads on here--some of these maroons better hope they don't need a genuine massage any time in their lives!

I agree!! I wouldn't mind digging in the closets of some of these loud mouths that seem to be ready to stand in Judgment of everyone else. We just might find a skeleton or two. And for those who are sick of this trial - GO FIND ANOTHER THREAD!!

Without Amber's wiretaps with Peterson, there wouldn Not have been a conviction in this case.!! Through these wiretapped calls, Peterson revealed who he REALLY is and the Jury got to hear it right from his own mouth.

You can be darn sure that if Amber behaved as a masseuse and gave more than a massage, at least ONE of more men would have stepped into the spotlight a long time ago. These guys would be only to happy to get themselves a few minutes of fame and a chance to discredit Amber!!
