Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee likes to rock. And hes bringing his bass guitar to Washington, plus some strong political ambitions.
Huckabees eight-member group, Capitol Offense, is the only band with a sitting governor as leader. It will play at an inaugural ball hosted by the Web site Free Republic. In 2001, the band played for a party at George W. Bushs first inauguration. Last summer, they jammed at a Republican National Convention party.
We play the tunes baby boomers danced to during high school and college, says Huckabee, 49. We try to bring back good memories and make new ones.
Theyve opened for Dionne Warwick, Percy Sledge, and Charlie Daniels. One of Huckabees favorite moments: hanging out backstage with guitarist Richie Sambora in Nashville.
Huckabee will be strumming and networking in Washingtonthe GOP governor is eyeing a 2008 run for president. Does he stand a chance? Note this: Hes originally from Hopeyes, the same place as Bill Clintonand he has spent his political career studying Clintons folksy style. While Clinton blew on a sax, Huckabee plays guitar.
In the last year, Huckabee lost about 110 pounds. Healthy living landed him a book deal with Time Warner.
Huckabees political ace in the hole? Hes a Southern Baptist preacher.
Sounds great to me! (but you've gotta get it past the stage manager). LOL
bttt
I like Arkansas, it's a beautiful state, and Ilike Arkansans..but you all have a lot to atone for. See, you never told the rest of the country what the Clintons were really like. Now, I understand why you all did that..it was the only way you would ever get they two of them the hell out of your state..but it was a tough price to make the rest of the country pay for 8 years, and counting..
Why? i believe one prime minister of the Scandinavian countries is a Lutheran priest.
Hey...you can't blame me!!! I went all over the country in 1992 to tell the world what a low life Klinton was! People weren't listening! Don't blame it on Arkansas!
Haven't heard the band, and hate to poop the party, but this is one Arkansan that will be glad to see this disaster out of office.
Frankly, I doubt the boy could win a statewide primary in '08, and I can't see another "Huckster" Arkansas governor being given a shot at the big white house for a long, long time.
I'm sure Gov. Huckabee is a likeable sort of fellow, but he has been a whopping failure as a governor; he is no conservative and hasn't the leadership qualities this country -- or this state, for that matter -- needs.
Ya gotta believe me when I say that I tried like hell to convince others that the media spawned beliefs about Clinton were false, but I had little success.
I even tried to convince a classroom full of people in N.Carolina when I was attending a seminar. They said it was bull crap, but they would consider my warnings.
But,in the end,you cannot blame us in Arkansas for the second term election. What blame could we possibly hold for that?
Yes, we did want to get rid of them.
I was being a tad tongue in cheek, tough I do take it personally, since now they live right next door..ergo..it's all "ya'lls" fault..(g)
Perhaps not by your definition.
Much blame has been assessed on the governors office, but the office has little power in this state. It has been gutted by successive Democrat controlled House and Senate actions and has never had much to do with anything but social initiatives, which Clinton took advantage of quite well.
Huckabee's failures, as you state, are to be blamed on those who had the power to correct them.
The recent battle regarding schools was a good example. The legislature failed and the courts took over. Huckabee did all he could do, IMO. His signature, or lack of it would not have changed anything. He used what little power he had, but it was not enough to divert funds from the various district pet projects in order to fill the gaps. The legislature sat on it's collective asses and Huckabee took the blame.
Now the notoriously weak Arkansas Republican party has joined the smarmy dems to criticize Huckabee as a scape goat for legislative failure.
I refuse to participate in these Arkansas blame festivals. The real problem is the Democrat legislature, and until the morons in this state figure that out, they will continue to be laughed at.
But, it is true that some think we really did not understand the jerk.
Hillary's education initiatives are still a great joke topic to this day.
All they ever really achieved here, was to create a welfare laden voter base for future election victories.
That is all they ever did.
Secretary of Transportation?
Or pavement...
:>)
I wanna go to the Ball sooooooooo bad, But I Don't Have a Date!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrrrgggghhhhhh, maybe nextime.....
Who needs a date to go to a party? There will be plenty of men and women coming to the Ball "stag," and you'll be among a thousand friends! Everyone's going to have a great time, for sure. Lots of very cool stuff being planned for the Ball.
Metro will have extended hours for Inauguration day.
Metro will open at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20 and close at 2 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21.
Were he to win the nomination in 2008, could he carry AR?
Are you coming for the Freeper Ball this time?
Afraid not
Don't follow enough Arkansas politics to know for sure, but I would think that'd be likely, particularly against a Hillary.
When you have 1/3 of the state on assistance or in a gov. job you are a lock. Things in AR are changing.
