Republicans find more flaws with governor's election By Rebecca Cook

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Hundreds of provisional ballots may have been counted on Election Day without being verified, state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance said today.

It's the latest in a series of allegations from Republicans who are pointing to flaws in the governor's election and demanding a revote. After losing the first two counts, Democrat Christine Gregoire beat Republican Dino Rossi in the third count by 129 votes out of 2.9 million ballots cast.

Vance said the admission by King County election workers that provisional ballots had been counted without verification is "absolute proof" of the need for a revote.

"It's enough right there to invalidate the election," Vance said. "This is a bombshell."

Gregoire's inauguration is scheduled for next Wednesday. Republicans are preparing for a possible court challenge to the election — the deadline to file such a challenge is Jan. 22.

Democrats downplayed the importance of the revelation, noting that King County verified 94 percent of provisional ballots.

"There would have to be thousands before it would make a difference," said state Democratic Party spokeswoman Kirstin Brost. "This is just the attack of the day from the Republicans."

Provisional ballots are given to people who go to the polls on Election Day, but who aren't listed as registered voters in the precinct. Maybe they just went to the wrong polling place, or maybe they're not really registered voters. Election workers research afterward to determine whether the vote is valid and should be counted.

Republican election observers in King County said they saw hundreds of provisional ballots go straight into the voting machines on Election Day without any checks — and since the provisional ballots look just like regular ballots, there's no way to tell how many were counted.

King County election workers said a review of polling place records should indicate the extent of the problem, but it may be impossible to determine exactly how many provisional ballots were fed into the tabulating machines on Election Day. King County this week is reconciling its list of voters in the 2004 election, which is about 3,500 names short of the number of ballots cast. At least four other counties have similar discrepancies, which county auditors say is common.

County officials say there are several possible innocent explanations for the discrepancies, such as voters who moved after the election, voters who were previously classified as "inactive," or people who signed the wrong line of the sign-in book at the polls.

OK, if this is true, somebody's got to go to jail. This is incompetence on a grand scale, if not all out fraud.

Second, if this is true, the King County results had better be tossed. Any judge who dismisses this will rue the day the 2nd Amendment was ratified, 'cause the Revolution's coming.

Third: "At least four other counties have similar discrepancies, which county auditors say is common." This reporter is lying. The 3500-vote discrepancy in King County is FAR greater than the statistical noise of recounts. And the sentence is ambiguous anyway - other counties did not have a 0.4% rise in votes that I know of.

The way I read the article there were 3,500 more votes cast in this County than there are registered voters?

And they think this isn't significant?

Then what is?

"Bring out your dead!"
Uh-oh! the dead!
They've come out to vote again!

let's remember that Maria Cantwell pulled off the Senate race a few years ago from Kink co with those 2000 provisional votes that just popped up.....

but Gorton wouldn't fight...the wimp ( can't say I ever liked him much) and now the Democrat party is emboldened to pull off this farce...

imagine every change in Kink Co going in favor of the Democrat.....how statistically impossible is that?

other thing is, the Democrat Official has already admitted that they have a history of NOT checking signature verification on many absentee ballots.....

as far as I am concerned, every election held here in the last 10 yrs or so is suspect.....

I hope Tim Eiyman (sp?) can come up with a good old referendum to straighten our voting problems out....like 6 month residency requirments....

I'd much prefer that a reputable individual sponsored the referendum. I wouldn't sign anything Eyman put out regardless of its merit. The guy is out for one thing -- his own enrichment.

What was someone saying about the Democrats retaliating against Rob McKenna? I didn't quite understand it - but I'm a big fan of McKenna's and I will be unbelievably torqued if they try to mess with him.

If Gregorovich pulls this fraud off, I'm thinking she'll consolidate power and there will be an attempt made with her and the legislature to rid the state of the initiative process.

Our Dino-crat friend Josef1235 said that the Democrats in the legislature were threatening to refuse to certify Rob McKenna as AG, choosing Deborah Senn instead, if the Republicans made any attempt to get dissident Democrats in the legislature to vote against the certification of Gregoire.

This would ensure that there would be no investigation whatever into the electoral fraud that's been going on.

If McKenna is honest. Gregopire will be indicted, prosecuted, convicted, and go to prison.

Thanks, Publius. So - they don't even need grounds to refuse McKenna's certification?

If Josef is correct, that is truly despicable.

I've told you many times that McKenna is honest, but I don't see Gregoire going to prison. I think you're in for a letdown.

I guess we will find out, won't we? I believe he is honest. Are you saying he would not prosecute Gregoire if their was proof she has committed many felonies?

There is no way the Democrats wou;d refuse to certify McKenna's election. Certification is a mere ministerial duty of the legislature and the state SC would rule in McKenna's favor in a petition for a writ of mandamus/quo warranto.

Do you have proof she has committed "many felonies"?

I'm sorry - I just don't see it happening. I think the best we can hope for is making sure she doesn't succeed in election theft.

If you happen to have a copy of Forrest McDonald's States' Rights and the Union, his masterpiece and required reading for FReepers, go to page 138. There are 3 pages on the Dorr Rebellion of 1842.

Absolutely. Personal knowledge and lots of documentary evidence; some of it from her own office, and tons of it in various court records.
