Mel had said that in interviews he had more flashbacks to Jesus's life (the miracles etc) but left them on the cutting room floor to focus on the story of his final days.

A re cut, longer version with 'more story' on a Special Edition DVD could be equal to Braveheart in quality, IMO.

The Passion has all the makings of what Hollywood would deem a perfect movie -- its subject is flawed for them and thats all. If this movie had been about something more accepting -- still had the beatiful imagery, subtitles, and blockbuster profits it'd be #1. Its an artists movie.

If the world were flat, Hollywood would have fallen off the edge long ago. Who cares what they think of themselves, anyway. I have seen mutual back-patting associations in action before. They ultimately render themselves meaningless.

Mel Gibson's ultimate reward will outshine anything these people will ever have, and he has done well financially, as well.

but Mel's reward will be much greater than a little golden statue.

Can God be bribed?

Your recent joining - in the heat of the campaign makes you 'suspect' since a lot of DU (Democratic Underground) loonies signed up at that time, to make mischief; the really obvious ones were banned by the ever vigilant morderator.

So perhaps I overreacted. I tend to do that :=(

But if you are denying that Hollywood has a MAJOR anti-Christian bias, I commend to you Michael Medved's books which cover the topic from the inside. And Michael is as fair as can be - which you already know if you listen to his show daily, as I do.

I must confess that my movie going has almost completely stopped because I don't want to support the likes of Cruise, Travolta, et al with even a cent of my $$. Plus, at mid-life time is precious and I have better things to do.

So, a (cautious) welcome to the forum.

Cordially, Al

The Academy can shove their golden idol straight up their butts,------- sideways.

Can't do that, they might hurt the gerbils...

Another recent DU Troll, I presume?

Your comment indicates a complete ignorance of the Bible or Christian doctrine. Good works do not get you into Heaven - accepting Jesus as your Saviour does. After you do that, you do good works not to 'get in', but because God lays it on your heart to help others and to spread the Gospel (which is what Mels' film did/does).

You're welcome.

Al

Thank you for your cordial response. I listen Medved frequently what he seems to miss is that the lack of Christian friendly films in the American film industry is a result of conservatives simply not going into that line of work. If you made a movie it would surely reflect your values and it would be presumptious and non-sensical of some atheist to complain to you about why you didn't reflect their's. I wish more conservatives would invest in the film business and fill what's obviously a significant gap in the market. I hope the success of the Gibson film will spur this on.

Ebert was one of the few mainstream critics to give the Passion 4 stars. He just hapepned to see 10 other films he thought were better.

I can't think of ten. I have a hard time thinking of one.

Can God be bribed? Of course not. But he can be paid. And that's what Jesus did! He paid God the price for our sin. Mel Gibson's reward will be based on the price that Christ paid at Calvary, not Mel's ability behind the camera. THAT is what I am referring to.

"Instead, Variety gave acting kudos to Gael Garcia Bernal for his role as Che Guevara in "The Motorcycle Diaries," Kevin Bacon for his role as a pedophile in "The Woodsman," and Liev Schrieber for his role as a psychotic conservative politician in "The Manchurian Candidate."

Liberals are more than politically wrong and stupid and treasonous. They are perverted, evil and sick.

I think they're scared what Mel would say if he were to win! Same with Michael Moore! But anyone, I don't think Mel gives a hoot. Honestly.

I haven't seen the movie, but I believe Bacon plays a pedophile who is just released from jail and is trying to put his life back together. I don't think he actually molests children on screen. Buy hey, I could be wrong. Let me go see what IMDB has to say about it...Back..I don't know, it's hard to tell from the reviews and description if it's just about one man's struggle to change or if it's about the crime itself.

This blurb is pretty informative:

. A convicted child molester returns home after a dozen years in prison and tries to go straight. If this has a familiar ring, that may be because the British drama The Mark (1961) explored the same subject (its lead actor, Stuart Whitman, received an Oscar nomination). The differences between the two movies are telling: the earlier one concentrated on the man's therapy and encouraged compassionate understanding, while this one seems less interested in psychology than in challenging the audience's sense of its own tolerance. (First-time director Nicole Kassell, who collaborated with Steven Fechter on this adaptation of his play, also seems intermittently influenced by Mystic River, which proves distracting.) Kevin Bacon is good as the pedophile, but as written his character is mainly a cipher; edgier performances comes from Kyra Sedgwick (Bacon's real-life spouse) as the man's girlfriend and Mos Def as a cop keeping an eye on him. What is the point, all psych studies have found that pedophiles are not treatable. Is Hollywood trying to say that are sort of like alcoholics. That may be even worse.

Listen up dickweed, I don't mind your criticizing what you believe is my ignorance of the way in which God works, but I do very much mind being accused of being a DUmmie. How would you like it if I called you an as*hole? Same thing as far as I'm concerned.

a. I don't think that wondering if you were a troll was unreasonable or impolite given your recent registration.

b. I think your reply is a bit 'over-the-top' and let's leave it at that. We try not to descend to that level of discourse around here. 'DU Trolls' are legitimate critters that occasionally pop out of their burrows around here; the word you suggest is just a hurtful, though meaningless, perjorative.

c. I take it by your tagline that you don't agree with the 'Rats; well that is one thing we agree on.

d. I should have been a little less confrontational in my post to you. Its a weakness I have (to go for the 'jugular'), and the Lord is working on that area with me. I've eaten crow plenty of times as a result. (I'm not perfect, just forgiven.) If that insulted you, I apologize.

Cordially,

Al
