Atheist sues to prevent prayer at Bush inauguration

The Associated Press

(Updated Thursday, January 6, 2005, 4:45 PM)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - An atheist who sued because he did not want his young daughter exposed to the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is now filing a suit to bar the saying of a prayer at President Bush's inauguration.

Michael Newdow, of Sacramento, notes that two ministers, the Reverend Franklin Graham and the Reverend Kirbyjon Caldwell, delivered Christian invocations at Bush's first inaugural ceremony in 2001.

Good Lord.

Michael Newdow gives all progressives a bad name.

There are so many battles that are worth fighting, this isn't one of them.

As a progressive, I'd like to apologize for Michael Newdow.

We really aren't like him.

Most of us are Christian, believe that it's okay (and worthy) for people to pray as long as nobody is being forced to do so, and cringe everytime we read an article about some atheist zealot who is crusading to remove any hint of religion from American public life.

Dear Michael Newdow,

America is a mostly Christian nation. Get over it. I suspect that you wouldn't be making a big deal of it if Joe Lieberman were being inaugurated and he opted for a Jewish prayer. Likewise, I suspect that you wouldn't be throwing a fit if the Dalai Lama were there to give his blessing.

So please shut up. There is a time and a place to argue matters of separation of church and state. This isn't one of them.

If George Bush wants to pray at his inauguration, he has every right to do so. Just like you have every right to not attend if it bothers you so much.

I'm still looking for "separation of church and state" in my copy of the Constitution. I probably won't find it, BECAUSE IT IS'NT FRICKIN IN THERE!!! I wish these A-holes would get over themselves once in a while.

If you've ever seen him interviewed on TV, or even just listen to him in a radio interview, I swear Michael Newdow has a psyco/gone postal qualitiy about him.

So what happens if at some govmnt. public event someone calls for a moment of silence for the tsunami victims? Newdow doesn`t seem to realize that in a public place there is really no better way show honor, respect, love and hope, things that have built the very country he lives in, or maybe he would prefer an obnoxious Broadway like show?

An atheist who sued because he did not want his young daughter exposed to the words "under God"

Notice the words AP and this man use here..."exposed to" and to "his young daughter"

It is the same wording Christians and conservatives use regarding the suits against homosexual indoctrination in the public classrooms.

On the basis of his hysteria and lawsuit---the fact is, you are "exposed to God" with every breath you take. We are all created, and live in His creation. This whole suit is a cheap attempt to get even with others who have shamed the Left.

Maybe he needs to disappear and be found several decades from now in the desert. It is a shame that this godless puke is allowed to breath good oxygen.

Thanks!

That what I'm saying. People like Michael Newdow are why Democrats can't win elections in the heartland.

We're not all a bunch of God-hating, flag-burning, baby-slaughtering, communist-loving monsters.

We're just people with a nurturant value system.

We believe in trust, opportunity, prosperity, open two-way communication, fairness, community building and honesty.

We're your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers.

Unfortunately, Michael Newdow and Jane Fonda would have you believe that we're something quite different.

America is better when we all work together.

"Progressives" like yourself need to be more vocal. D**ks like Newdow get all the press. Thanks for serving, BTW.
