Humph. The Speaker has done his penance. It's time he was rehabilitated and back in public life where he belongs.

You hit it on the nose! How dare he criticize a sitting President during wartime. What a Clymer. Go to hell Newt. BTW- go cheat on your 3rd wife, while you're at it!

I agree....Newt is a bright-boy, but he is damaged goods when it comes to this up-coming race for the brass ring.

Absolutely, positively NOT! Gingrich has too much personal character baggage regarding the treatment of his ex-wives. And, yes, that sort of stuff is important to conservative values. His criticism of President Bush is pathetic.

You think Hillary has negatives? Hah! The press would harp on Newt's personal character flaws (of which many conservatives find morally reprehensible despite Gingrich's right-wing political credentials) thus freeing them from going after any of Hillary's more obvious foibles. Not that the MSM would willingly point out the downside of Her Heinous, however, going after Newt and pointing out his minor hypocrisies, past affairs/comparisons to Bubba, etc. would give the Old Media sufficient cover from further embarrassment or criticism towards the Clintonistas.

What is it with some politicians whose enormous egos blind them to reality?

While giving Bush credit for recognizing the threats posed by terror, Gingrich said U.S. intelligence capabilities are one-third of the size needed. On Iraq, he writes that the Bush administration erred by creating a U.S.-led provisional authority instead of quickly creating an interim government as it did in Afghanistan.

He also accused the administration of underestimating the effect of anti-U.S. propaganda from the Arab rule and lacking a strategy to deal with insurgents. "This lack of strategic planning led to the tragedy of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal," Gingrich wrote."

Had the president stuck with an Afghanistan-style postwar plan, his public approval rating would be sky-high "and the Arab world would be closer to democracy," Gingrich said. "But that is history now, and we must work our way out of it."

I see nothing wrong with Newt's opinion.

The headline is disingenuous, but then again, this shouldn't be surprising because NO ONE on the Right was more reviled by the Left and media than was Newt Gingrich.

>Good! I cannot think of another electable Republican anyhow<

Well how about Alan Keyes with a mild sedative?

If it's a go, I'm in.

The man's articulate, no stranger to brass knuclkle political fighting, can raise a mountain of money as a candidate, and most importantly has a nuaunced, multi-faceded vision for this country.

From a policy standpoint, he'd be the most impressive GOP nominee since Reagan, easy.

If he emerges as the "conservative" alternative to John McCain, I like his chances.

Gingrich is the latest talking head to stab Bush in the back over Iraq after having beat the drum for war for so long. Gingrich must be delusional if he thinks he can run for President without having to answer questions about his ugly divorces and affairs.

I agree. I like Newt, but he blew it when he let the media run him out of office. Politically, he could probably get back in the House or maybe the Senate, but a Presidential bid is doomed to failure.

I'd prefer to put those 3 into a blender and elect the result, LOL A dash of Norm Coleman would make it even better.

Newt Gingrich is the reason Bill Clinton got off.

Gingrich was having a sexual relationship with his secretary on government property and government time at the same time Clinton was involved with Monica. Bill Clinton had the proof.

It would have been quite difficult to go after Bill Clinton when the Republican Speaker of the house Newt Gingrich was doing the same thing. The other problem was Clinton's wife did not care, and Gingrich's wife wanted him hung from the highest tree.

So the deal was struck. Gingrich would resign as would his 2nd in command who also had also played hanky panky while in office.

Clinton would be impeached but not convicted and Henry Hyde's past would be exposed.

Gingrich is Bill Clinton.. only sleazier.

Now you know why Newt never once called for Clinton to resign and said over and over that "We must wait for the facts before criticizing Clinton." Gingrich was as guilty as Clinton and is a disgusting excuse for a man.

The only thing Newt should be allowed to run for is his life!!!

Who knows but what our next Republican president was "washed down the toilet" before birth?

If there's still an opening in Bashar's appointment book, maybe Newt can fly to Damascus and try his hand at running a parallel White House. He may not have a "plan" like JF-in'K does, but he's apparently got all the answers.

in fairness to Newt .. the headline doesn't match his quote.

I also think he's way too intelligent to undertake a run for the WH, ego notwithstanding.

"It never hurts to maximize opportunities. That's the American tradition," Gingrich said. "If I can influence the reporters and political activists in Iowa and New Hampshire, they will influence the candidates."

We know that "good cop-bad cop routine," Newt. It's done a lot in Washington. The question is who's financing you and your political ambitions, and for what agenda? Newt'll never tell (snicker). All the more reason to quash this ridiculousness right from the getgo.

I idolized him when I was in middle school but yeah. He spent all his political capital and more on his ex-wife and that big Medicare goof... where he said he'd cut Medicare when he was merely reducing the rate of increase.

Newt's day in the sun is over and his ego needs to be happy with making a zillion on books and the speaking circuit. If he runs, he might as well take Bob Dole as Veep. Oh, the excitement! Can't you feel it?

There were numerous "alleged" extramarital affairs on his part.

One of them was rumored to involve Christine Lategano, a close female aide.

The other one, which he more or less confirmed by his public flaunting of her, involved Judi Nathan, his current wife.

Both Donna Hanover and her husband acted apallingly, in my estimation.
