Robert Jensen (rjensen@uts.cc.utexas.edu) is a journalism professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also the author of Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Claim Our Humanity. In an article written for The Austin American Statesman, Jensen recently claimed that The United States has lost the war in Iraq, and that's a good thing.
While Jensen was careful to say that the loss of American lives is not to be celebrated, he insulted our soldiers deeply by saying that their deaths haven't protected Americans or brought freedom to Iraqis. Instead, he brushed off their service to our country as merely part of a quest to extend the American empire.
In his article, Jensen proudly states, I welcome the U.S. defeat. He also says it's essential the American empire be defeated and dismantled. Why? Because, according to Jensen, In Iraq, the Bush administration invaded not to liberate but to extend and deepen U.S. domination. He also says that the invasion of Iraq is about control over the flow of oil and oil profits, though he concedes that it is not about outright ownership of Iraqi oil.
According to Professor Jensen, When we admit defeat and pull out - not if, but when - the fate of Iraqis depends in part on whether the United States (1) makes good on legal and moral obligations to pay reparations, and (2) allows international institutions to aid in creating a truly sovereign Iraq.
According to Jensen, we shouldn't expect politicians to do either without pressure. An anti-empire movement - the joining of antiwar forces with the movement to reject corporate globalization - must create that pressure. After reminding us that he is glad for the U.S. military defeat in Iraq, Jensen says that we should pursue the most courageous act of citizenship in the United States today: Pledging to dismantle the American empire.
When I was first sent a copy of Jensens article, I was flabbergasted. I immediately tried to think of ways I could oppose the professor in his efforts to demoralize our troops and defeat our nation in a time of war. But, now, Ive had a change of heart.
As of today, I hereby announce the establishment of the new Robert Jensen Deportation Fund. Once the fund has enough money to buy Jensen a one-way ticket to Iraq, we can contact Iraqi insurgents to let them know he is on his way to help defeat our troops.
Based upon my reading of Jensens work, I can tell that he is a brave revolutionary warrior. There is no sense in keeping him here in the evil American Empire, seething with anger against our troops. We should do everything within our power to help him bravely face those troops in combat. After all, he is the one who says that we should be courageous and dismantle the American empire. I look forward to seeing him face off against some of the Marines that he has tried to demoralize with his anti-American rhetoric. Good luck, Professor.
Who knows what will happen after Professor Jensen is deported to engage his enemies (the Americans) in combat in Iraq? I dont want him to die because, as Jensen says, the loss of American lives is not to be celebrated. If our Marines capture him, perhaps they could just dress him in a pink Burqua and send him across enemy lines for a lesson on tolerance and diversity in the Middle East.
It is no laughing matter when we imagine the outrage Jensens diatribe must bring to the hearts of the brave men and women who serve in Iraq. They risk their lives to preserve our constitutional rights. Sadly, some will die preserving a cowards perceived right to commit treason.
While the date is last month, I heard Mr. Jensen trying to defend his position on a rebroadcast of Michael Medved yesterday.
I was in my car AND my computer was down for several days (turns out that the show was on tape anyway) otherwise I would have tried to call in with these other statements from Robert Jensen...
Yep. |
If he "welcomes the US defeat" then I'm sure he won't mind me saying that I would welcome it if he steps in front of a speeding bus.
"The United States has lost the war in Iraq"
Trying to play like he's Walter Cronkite ..?? That's what Walter said on the radio after the TET offensive WHICH WE WON. It was a turning point in the war because IT GAVE AID AND COMFORT TO OUR ENEMIES and they continued the war - WHERE WE LOST 48,000 MORE American soldiers.
We cannot allow these appeasers to do this to our military again.
Jensen has such a long history of making outrageous statements in the press that he's a bore.
He's so far left, he makes Michael Moore look like a Republican
Ratner, or simply "the Rat," as we who know her fondly call her, is just as reprehensible as the Professor, but she makes believe that she is a journalist.
Congressman Billybob
Yeah, I just listened to that replay, and it made my blood boil again. Reading his articles, I just can't believe he's for real. He seems like a caricature of the lefty professor.
Michael Moore has also professed that he wants to see America defeated. That no nation help us, and that we beg for forgiveness.
They are in the same camp as Axis Sally and Lord Haw Haw (both of whom were convicted of treason after WWII, England hung the American born William Joyce, aka Lord Haw Haw). Sign up with the Nazis and become their mouthpiece and that's what you deserve.
Oh my. What a freak.
Jensen is a self avowed communist. He's part of the wacky Austin left. What should be more shocking than his bloviations about Iraq is the fact that he is entrusted with the education of the next generation of reporters.
His salary is a waste of my tax money.
My thoughts exactly---why in the heck should I have to pay taxes to the Uof Texas when part of them are going to this lslamofascist supporter? I am not kidding either---there has got to be a way that Texans can demand that he be fired for spewing this Anti-American vile.
I have seen him on almost every hate-America talk show, Chris Mathews, Joe Scarborough, and I think he has been on them multiple times. He and this Michael Newdow are becoming the darlings of these shows because they don't hesitate to speak their hateful minds---no PC from them, and the show host gets to nod his head and never challenge them which, in my mind, makes it a tacit agreement on their part.
And Howard Zinn teaching journalism at Boston University...
Wasn't Noam Chomsky at MIT with Ted Kazenski and Timothy Leary at Harvard?
So many extremists with absolutely no balance.
This same Professor Jensen told one of his UT classes right after 9/11 that America "deserved" the attack...and he felt it was long overdue.
It was quoted in the local paper...outraged letters...demands for his firing, etc....nothing ever happened to the #^%@. He's got bullet-proof tenure, I guess.
