Right! I'll look for this story in the annuls of history right under "Churchill breaks promise to Hitler!"

VATICAN CITY - The Italian cardinal sent by Pope John Paul II last year to try to dissuade President Bush from invading Iraq said Monday the president promised that the U.S. operation would be "quick."

We didn't lie.

We kicked Saddam's army's ass real quick.

This Cardinal like a few others needs to have his Red Flag taken back and he needs to go to confession for this lies.

Amen! Possibly the world's quickest ass kicking, of its size, in history.

The Cardinal did not call Bush a "liar" -- he said he was "wrong."

What most people here may not remember is that the meeting between Pio Laghi and President Bush was not held simply to pass along the Vatican's concerns about the pending war in Iraq. The Cardinal very clearly warned Bush that post-war Iraq was going to be far more chaotic than the Bush Administration believed (at least publicly).

The irony here is that the Vatican was right all along.

For centuries I would say, the Irish have been trying unsucessfully to keep the catholic clergy out of politics. They never really succeeded.

Sounds like to me, hubristic, Papal emissaries are still meddling.

Sorry, I totally disagree. The Vatican has no credibility!

I hate to break this news to you, but "Saddam's army" is still spending every waking moment planting roadside bombs from one end of the Sunni Triangle to another.

I've read the article a few times. I still don't see where the cardinal said that "Bush broke his promise".

The headline writer at Yahoo said that.

I hate to break it to you, but that's not Saddam's army.

That's bin Laden's/Zarqawi's/Al Sadr's army.

" The irony here is that the Vatican was right all along."

Sure looks that way. We now seem to be conflating terrorism as civil war between Sunni and Shite.

Excuse me, but where in this story does Cardinal Laghi accuse anyone of breaking a promise?

Being fully aware of widespread hostility and ignorance regarding the catholic church, the MSM invents a wedge, and the barking-seal right responds on cue.

When it's this easy for them to push your buttons, who can blame them?

"Unfortunately, the facts have demonstrated afterward that things took a different course — not rapid and not favorable," the prelate told Telepace. "Bush was wrong."

Did the MSM invent this quote?

Another irrelevant piece of news from the Vatican. As someone else posted: "The Vatican has no credibility!"

Cardinal Pio Laghi visited Bush at the White House on March 5, 2003, to relay the pope's position that dialogue, not arms, should be used to resolve the crisis over Iraq,...

"You take all the time you want to dialogue. We're not going anywhere."

It was indeed very quick and Bush didn't lie. I imagine the Cardinal watches too much American television and expected everything to be all neat and tidy within an hour or so.

What are we supposed to do now? Does the good Cardinal want the United States to leave Iraq and allow the terrorists to gain power in that country? Does the Cardinal wish for us to leave Iraq without allowing it to protect itself?

The Vatican is and always has been a political organization of men, who have also made predictions of millions of Iraqi refugees post-war.

Why is this news that another liberal group, that depended entirely predictability of a madman and sons, with billions for WMD, the science and the M.O. to use them, while funding Islamic cult groups, save their criticism for the US President?

Did the Vatican also support the immoral policy of containment that consigned millions to tyranny for decades? (most liberal pols, gov, and organizations wanted sanctions lifted)

Does this man, Pio, believe that Saddam and Sons "stable" country is preferable to a "chaotic" Iraq that now has at least a chance at a civilized society, in charge of their own economy?

These men in the Vatican have been wrong for decades, allowing these Islamic cults to roam the globe, murdering innocents with impunity.

And all the while blaming Israel and the US, and assigning victimhood to the cults.

Calling the President of the US a liar, and incompetent, and basically a murderer is transparent in its media pandering, and politicking.
