WASHINGTON — The federal government is receiving reports of "suspicious activity" around buildings where presidential inaugural events and a parade are scheduled to occur Jan. 20 in Washington, FOX News learned Friday.

FOX News obtained an intelligence bulletin sent this week to law enforcement by the FBI's Washington field office, which is coordinating the security for next week's inaugural along with the U.S. Secret Service.

Another threat report, as outlined in the FBI bulletin, consists of word that Mohamad Chafiq Dekkak contacted a U.S. businessman of Muslim descent to sponsor his visa entry into the United States for business purposes. Dekkak has been associated with two possible international arms dealers, Hemad Lakhani (search) and Samir El Mahallawy (search). Lakhani was arrested in the United States in August 2003 and charged with providing material support for terrorist acts and with violating the arms import/export control act. The FBI continues to investigate.

Dekkak's hidden intent is allegedly to attend the inauguration. This is suspicious, since Dekkak has no known basis for his recent interest in U.S. political events, the FBI noted.

Sounds pretty specific if you ask me.

This means NOTHING unless they tell us, the PEOPLE, physical characteristics or things in common about the appearances of these suspects who were witnessed on multiple occaisions.

Sick and tired of being told to look out for trouble, but when the authorities have a 'description' of that 'trouble', they won't share it with their eyes and ears, the People.

Oh, I see they're talking about foreigners. From the headline, I thought it was just another article about those wacky democrats. They're always acting "suspicious."

The communists are planning/not-planning (they're anarchists) many actions for the inaugural. I saw them twice on C-SPAN giving press conferences regarding their marshalling of forces to show their displeasure with the president.

I hope all the men and women serving as security for the Inauguration are locked and loaded.

"Sick and tired of being told to look out for trouble, but when the authorities have a 'description' of that 'trouble', they won't share it with their eyes and ears, the People."

Be on the lookout for persons of Latvian descent. They have proven to be suspicious in the past.

Im feeling kinda PC today.

Thanks, TexKat!

This is a strange comment, presumably from the FBI:

"Dekkak's hidden intent is allegedly to attend the inauguration."

"Reports of suspicious activity noted by the FBI include people taking pictures and writing descriptive notes while being near the buildings. But there is no indication that any of these activities are linked to terrorist activity. Plus, many of the buildings and streets in question consistently receive numerous suspicious activity reports due to their high visibility in the Washington area."

The original report mentioned people taking pictures along the route. And a freeper mentioned that, as a matter of fact, she had been taking pictures. Tourists do it all the time, and Freepers have often been known to do it. Suspicious Arabs, too, on occasion, but we don't really have anything much to go on.

I put this on another thread on this subject, but I'll post it here too.

There are so many alphabet soup agencies drawn into security for this gig, I'll bet this is a classic case of the feds not talking to each other. Could be Delta or SEAL snipers measuring ranges and angles or fields of fire. Could be Secret Service making sure manhole covers are welded. Could be LOTS of things, not the least of which is a terrorist recon. Anybody happen to get UNpolitically correct and notice what the nationalities were of these suspicious individuals? I mean some farm grown sniper from Nebraska should draw a leeeeetle bit less scrutiny than the swarthy Saddam Hussein look-alike.

I know, I know. How can be such a profiler???

Agreed.

The Inauguration is a Special Security Event under the purview of the Secret Service, and it is inconceiveable that Penn. Ave. hasn't been under intense scrutiny since last week (at the latest). It'll remain so through Thursday.

And not just by the SS but by all the LE agencies that participate in the Inauguration.

Personally I think the FBI FO is tweaked that it doesn't have more authority on Penn. Ave. If it did, it would be out questioning these "suspicious characters."

So instead it's issuing bogus press releases.

I certainly won't disagree with you on the profiling issue. And I hope that, at least off the record, agents in the field have enough sense to do their own profiling. Surely they should be on the lookout for swarthy Arabic-looking young males, and if they see one acting suspiciously they could act without giving all their reasons in the report.

Too bad to have to be hypocritical about things, though. Profiling should be allowed as long as it does not become demonstrably racist. In other words, it's perfectly reasonable that Arab males should have to put up with more searches, because of the conduct of their fellow Arabs, but in the process they should be treated politely like everyone else.
