Sy Hirsch Tries To Rip Off Gunny Bob?

Posted on 01/16/2005 8:56:24 AM PST by GunnyBob

I could use some intel from you guys.

Last week, I broke the story on Clear Channel stations from coast to coast of how the US is conducting clandestine reconnaissance missions via Global Hawk in Iran. The Hawks are searching for intel on Iran's nuke program. One went down near Arak, where Iran has their heavy-water facility. I also reported that the rumors of US manned reconnaissance flights over Iran were in fact decoy flights to draw Iran's attention away from the GH missions.

I just heard on MSNBC that Sy Hirsch will have an article in next week's "New Yorker" reporting what I reported last week. Have any of you heard this scoop from a source other than MSNBC?

If he intends to rip me off by claiming he broke this story, I am going to send him an invoice.

Thanks.

Gunny Bob

"If in fact the United States is engaged in covert operations to determine the nature, extent, and location of WMD and WMD delivery systems in Iran, what possible constructive purpose can be served by the publication of such information -- unless you consider helping our enemies in the War on Terror, such as Iran, a constructive purpose?"

Hmmmm Food for thought, indeed.

Before you go "breaking" more stories you might want to spell "Sy Hirsch" as Seymour Hersh. I used to make the same mistake too...

When a Global Hawk is on the ground in pieces in Iran near their heavy-water facility at Arak, do you think the Iranians might know something is up?

Simply reporting something that has to do with US activity in a certain country does NOT mean the enemy doesn't already know about it.

In the 30 stories I have broken in the WoT, not a one has tipped off the enemy. All the stories I could have broken that would have tipped them off, I refused to report.

Ping.

Many are questioning the wisdom of Seymour Hersh's new article and inteview with CNN.

The news is repleat with articles about the US being in Iran.

This is a good thing?

"Statement from Pentagon Spokesman Lawrence DiRita on Latest Seymour Hersh Article"

Mr. Hersh’s article is so riddled with errors of fundamental fact that the credibility of his entire piece is destroyed.

Mr. Hersh’s source(s) feed him with rumor, innuendo,

Mr. Hersh is building on links created by the soft bigotry of some conspiracy theorists

Seymour Hersh, who obviously knows nothing about target reconnaissance and how it is being carried out in Iran, was apparently duped by the CIA.

First, US military recon teams would not be assigned the mission of penetrating deep into Iran to compile target folders on suspected nuke sites. That mission falls to three assets: humans of Iranian extraction inside Iran (whether expatriots infiltrated back into Iran or actual Iranian citizens on the CIA payroll), UAVs and satellites. As a former recon team leader, I laugh at the idea of Hersh falling for that story.

Second, he was fed that story by the CIA, which knew he would publish it with a big splash. The CIA did this so that after the story broke, they could observe how and where the Iranian government reacted, such as by seeing the sudden deployment of additional security around suspected sites. If that happened, we would then know something important is there, and we would then devote more assets to it.

Third, the very idea that a US intel official would rat out US recon teams in Iran to Sy Hersh is laughable and punishable by life in prison and even prosecution under the Patriot Act.

The story behind the story is great, huh?

It is gratifying to know my original report on UAVs over Iran was on the money.

"As a former recon team leader,"

Things do change and I question the wisdom of posting intel or intel related information in an open public forum. I suppose you have your reasons.

Yo Gunny Bob... last night on the O'Reilly Factor (Mon. Jan 31st) good old Bill took credit for making the Ward Churchill professor and his essay a national story. He has overlooked the talk show hosts here in Colorado who put the story front and center in the national headlines. You, Peter Boyles, Dan Caplis, Mike Rosen and others.

I will speak to Bill and his producers about that claim.

Thanks.

I suppose Bill also claimed credit for the Parade of Lights gig and the "Merry Christmas" sign on City Hall.

He won't.

I'm used to getting robbed, though.

He didn't and you were right....
