Singer Curses at Inaugural Youth Concert

WASHINGTON (AP) - You might say the Janet Jackson moment of President Bush's inaugural festivities came Tuesday at a youth concert with hundreds of preteen Hilary Duff fans in the audience.

No nudity was involved, but the Vince Neil-style profanity probably didn't win rock band Fuel any fans at the Federal Communications Commission, nor from the parents at the concert. Now the Pennsylvania band is just hoping the concert, "America's Future Rocks Today," wasn't aired live.

Borrowing a word from Motley Crue's Neil, the lead singer of Fuel proclaimed, "Welcome to the greatest ----ing country in the world." Brett Scallions followed with a quick apology of "excuse my language."

The FCC is investigating Neil's wish to band mate Tommy Lee for a "Happy ----ing New Year," which aired live on NBC on New Year's Eve.

The outburst was one of the most interesting moments of Tuesday's concert, hosted by Bush twins Jenna and Barbara, who were in the audience but did not come on stage.

Duff was the headliner at the half-full, D.C. Armory concert, which paid tribute to youth volunteerism and community service. Duff, who performed in a black sequin top, rolled-up jeans and sneakers, warmed up the crowd for the president and first lady Laura Bush.

"My call to you all is that as you enjoy the great freedoms of America and as you enjoy yourself at this inauguration, I hope you take away the lesson of helping somebody in need," said Bush, who arrived toward the end of the concert after Scallions' remark. "And when you do, it will not only make our country a better place, it will lift up your own spirit."

Other performers included 2003 "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard, pop singer JoJo and the band, 3 Doors Down. Also appearing were former football player Jason Sehorn, actor Stephen Baldwin, who rode a skateboard onto the stage, and "Access Hollywood's" Nancy O'Dell, who co-hosts the entertainment show with Billy Bush, whose father, Jonathan, is the brother of former President George H.W. Bush.

A crowd favorite, besides Duff, was singer-songwriter Ryan Cabrera, a Dallas native who whipped up the audience with his jams on the guitar and the drums. Cabrera, 20, said his last trip to Washington was in the seventh grade on a field trip. "I lost my contact lens in the Capitol," he told the audience, urging them to keep an eye out for it.

My 11 year old granddaughter was sassing her mother a bit at our house one day and I told her to stop talking that way and to realize that her parents only want the best for her. I'm glad nobody recorded the things I used to say....whew.

Amazing how we all bitch about CAIR being 'offended' by a tv show, yet we get as equally outraged over a swear word. The hypocrisy is amazing.

This jerk is only resounding what the average language of today's youth really is - the product of a generation without God.

It all started in 1964 when the USSC had prayer removed from . .

Horseclinton.

The 1960s "hippies" who embraced the worst things the world had to offer at the time while spitting on our nation nearly all went to public school before 1964.

The kids who went after were key to rebuilding America into the greatest nation on Earth. They voted for Reagan twice, spearheaded a technological revolution that has pulled the world ahead at least a century during the last twenty years, and with an all volunteer force have proven that if "you mess with the U,S, of A...we'll put a boot in your [democrat], it's the American way"...in the words of one of them.

The problem with recent PS graduates is the result of liberals removing the concept of personal responsibility from the public schools. That happened during the mid 1990s.

Its their revenge for all the lies they are told.

Which lies are they being told which motivate this 'revenge'? (Please be specific)

Who exactly is telling them these lies? (Please be specific)

Brett "Scallions"...kinda brings a tear to my eye.

On another note, while I think it is crass to swear at an inaugural ball, they are rock 'n rollers what do you expect in this time and age (heck, pretty much since rock's been around)...sad, but true. I'm actually surprised he apologized afterword. Perhaps he realized where he was. I've been to a couple of Fuel concerts, man when I was 20,I had the biggest crush on Brett.

I have no intention of providing you any sort of 'specifics'.

There might be a million stories in the naked city, but there are also gazillions of lies which parents tell, albeit for 'the best intentions'. The lies are usually cased by fear or inadequacy on the parents part. All the little white lies do is to teach the young 'ens about fear, and how to lie. More important than who is telling them lies is who is telling them the truth. Most children inherently want to be brave, and the rebel at being taught fear.

" No wonder republicans have such a reputation for being uptight."

That "uptight" rep is merely a caricature fabricated from the cavone-set who need to justify behaving like cro-magnons. Stop being so insecure and uncomfortable with the tag, "conservative."

Why can't some of you folks get it?

There's a time and place for everything. As many have already noted on this thread, coarseness and crudeness in everyday language is ubiquitous.

Is it possible to have five minutes of "edgy/hip" entertainment without a nipple or "F" word tossed in?

If that's the criteria for "edgy and hip," I'm quite capable of getting out my portable karaoke machine, staring into a mirror at my own nipple, and cursing at myself....And then applauding and screaming wildly at my "performance."

Even if I've got a good voice? ;-)

And to further embellish the visual, I promise to paint my nipple red, while and blue...

Almost an offer you can'tr refuse, right?

No offense intended, but I did ask for some specific lies. Could you please give me just a few examples of the lies you are talking about?

Correct me if I,m wrong, but are you saying it is the parents who are the ones lying? I think rock stars and hollywood types may be even more prone to lying and giving incorrect information.

Duh. Any intelligent kid can figure out other people say these kinds of words.

If you think they should be taught to *not* say them, how are you any different from the rest of us "uptight" people?
