The guerrillas aren't being sheltered for r and r purposes as is commonly thought - they control the frontier and operate full blown terrorist training camps all through Venezuela. Chavez is a state sponsor of terror, not out of weakness but out of will. Everyone in the world needs to know!

Venezuela is very much at the stage Cuba was during the time it was involved in exporting it's ideologies. The only difference is that Cuba is an island and this, more than anything, kept it from being successful. Venezuela is not constrained by such geography and IMO it will be a much bigger problem if something isn't done, and soon.

That is a very profound observation.

And this breaking news illustrates it like a bullseye.

The US better do something, because we are all going to be sucked under if this garbage continues. Ronald Reagan went to war in central america for much less.

Maybe they are gathering to take over the country, much like the Spanish Civil War; fought among Socialists, Fascists, and Communists. Think about it. Why be happy about just not getting harassed when you can use the natural resources of the country to further your means?

Thank you.

The situation is compounded by the existence of groups who are able to fund destabilizing efforts such as Narcos and who would directly benefit from loss of central authority in most of these countries. The disparity of wealth and asset (Land) distribution doesn't help IMO.

Where are the usual suspects that always talk about drug running. John Kerry and Charlie Rangel are awful quiet about FARC drug running.
Chavez should remember there is a second part of Teddy Roosevelt's famous saying.

Condi Rice already has a plan, I'd bet. There was a reason rino Chaffee tried to get her to say something nice about chavez at her committee hearing. She wouldn't. Then, he told her we needed "dialog" with them, etc. He tried to tell her that Russia was the real problem, not chavez. The liberals KNOW Condi's going to deal with it.

" Chavez is a state sponsor of terror,"

You wouldn't know that from the Senate confirmation hearings of Dr. Condi Rice on January 19.
Many of the inquisitors were almost in tears begging her to make nice to Chavez.
"Because we need his oil," but, God forbid we drill in a teeny spot of our own country.

SENATOR CHAFEE: Can we specifically go back to Venezuela again? Where can we find common ground?

SENATOR CHAFEE: And with Iran? Is there any potential for finding common ground with Iran?

Chaffee also talked about China beating the US in ping pong ( I am not making this up.)

I was very disappointed in Norm Coleman

SENATOR NORM COLEMAN : ... I join with some of my colleagues believing that we need to find more common ground with Venezuela.

IIRC, Lugar was also a cheerleader for Chavez, as was Dodd.
Boxer and Biden may have been also, but, it is impossible to read their transcripts.
Saner, more coherent words have been uttered by manic depressives, on speed , who forgot to take their ADD medication.

Ironically, it was Democrat Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska who agreed with Dr Rice that Victor Chavez is not a friend of the US.

SENATOR NELSON : We've got to keep our eyes on President Chavez. He told us one thing a week ago Monday, and then lo and behold a whole different thing suddenly emerges after we left Caracas.

If Cuba or Al Queda discovers oil, apparently all will be forgiven , if left up to the Chaffee, Dodd, Lugar, Coleman et al.
Thankfully, Hitler did not sit on a petroleum goldmine.

Somebody needs to print out this report and send it to Chris Dodd. He was absolutely obnoxious toward Dr. Rice when she said the admin considered Chavez to be a problem.

It was obvious that Dodd thought Chavez was a good guy.
