Personally, I LIKE when a writer shares with us a glimpse of his family life. It makes a famous, accomplished, devastatingly intelligent person like Ben Stein seem...normal. The autobiographical touches are just that. Autobiographical.
Not every word written will change the world.
You are a friend of his?
I am so jealous.
The best I can claim is he actually replied to an e-mail I sent him once. He actually responds to his e-mail, which is more than I can say for 99 percent of the rest of the rather famous people out there with e-mail addresses.
And he's right about Suffield's wrestlers -- we were undefeated for all four years I spent there. A true dynasty.
I can't remember the title, but he wrote a book I saw in Barnes and Noble that is one of the best conservative defenses I have ever seen, particulary in economics. It taught me much I did not know.
California will soon be broke so you can be bored all you want. Sad that Californians think the whole world should be an action movie. Stein is erudite, contemplative, witty and he has an edge. What is your contribution?
I see you have revealed yourself as another one of those California-hating bigots who infest FReep.
Those of us who fight the liberal regime in this state have a harder time than the red-state FReepers.
You owe us your gratitude and respect, not your contempt.
BTTT I love both Steyn and Stein!

did your mother kill your puppy as a child? just wondering why you are so bitter and hate filled?
Uh ... I do tend to respond to hate-filled attacks, but that doesn't make me "bitter and hate-filled." I do find the level of discussion on FReep disappointingly low at times, but that doesn't make me "bitter and hate-filled" either. I do occasionally criticize people whom other FReepers like -- Ben Stein is clearly a such a person -- but does that make me "bitter and hate-filled"? Try to use logic here.
I AM a Californian, pal. Lived here for 40 years. Your post was ambiguous and did not indicate that you are ANTI liberal.
Well, ambiguity is always a possibility with online communication.
I think my initial posts always indicate
that I'm anti-liberal. My responses may not always,
but I don't see that they need to.
