Specter Fallout SANTORUM IN TROUBLE
American Spectator ^ | 1/24/2005 | The Washington Prowler

Posted on 01/24/2005 7:31:36 AM PST by AliVeritas

On Friday Republican staffers in a number of Senate offices were holding meetings to discuss how to proceed with Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Arlen Specter and his recent hire, Hannibal G. Williams II Kemerer, who until recently was the NAACP's assistant general counsel. Kemerer was hired by Specter against the advice of senior Republican Judiciary staff and was to serve as a key vetter of Bush Administration judicial nominations. As word of Specter's hiring decision leaked off Capitol Hill, Specter is said to have shifted Kemerer into a job that would not deal with judicial nominations.

"That is not true," says a Judiciary Committee staffer. "Kemerer may have a different stated responsibility, but we've been told he will be working with Specter on judicial nomination issues regardless of what his stated role is supposed to be."

More disturbing than the hiring itself was Specter's willful behavior in hiring the left-wing litigator. "I wish I could say this was a one time, freak event," says another Judiciary Committee aide. "But I don't think I can. We got the distinct impression that Specter is going to continue to hire people like this. If conservatives care, they need to mobilize now. Because it's largely out of our hands."

I think when a good leader allows a team mate a chance to redeem themselves, the leader gives plenty of opportunity. Sometimes that member forgets the forgiving graces of that leader and forgets the meaning of life. Many complain that Pres Bush Sr. had played Noriega in Panama knowing that Noriega was a thug all along. I like to think that Pres Bush Sr. gave this guy plenty of opportunities to change before Operation Just Cause.

Others that have been supported by or given position by President Bush Jr. should take heed.

How can we export freedom to other nations or even stand with freedom seekers in other nations when the freedoms we have been granted via the US Constitution are contingent upon the whims of the judiciary?

This country has never had any intention of "exporting freedom" to other nations. Just think of our foreign policy as a series of major business decisions . . . when it makes financial sense to "support freedom and democracy," we'll do it. When it makes financial sense to support radical Islamic elements in Europe (see Kosovo, for example), we'll do it.

lol. That clarifies it. Why don't we have some President who'll say that? I guess in a way that President Reagan did. He was anti-communist all the way. So does free-dom equal free trade? Or does freedom equal democracy?

Lord, God, Almighty,

You are the only One who can remove Spectre Specter from the public stage and shut his flappin' trap.

Please do so ASAP. . . . perhaps with great fanfare and insult to his destructive positions and philosophy.

In Jesus' Name.

If this last election didn't expose that the whole Senate is wholesale under the effective control of the puppet masters, I don't know what will.

Amen -- Bush and Santorum chose poorly and obviously did not have enough confidence in the party that it could win the seat with a conservative pro-lifer.

If you dance with the devil, you can't later complain about the tune!

Specter has his puppet master bosses behind him, under him, over him, around him.

He marches strictly to their tune and ideals.

And the Pied Piper plays on.

You may want to check your facts on Smith v. Sununu - I believe it was the other way around (due to Smith bolting the GOP temporarily to run for President w/the Constitution Party).

"The gutless morons should have hung him out to dry when they had the chance"

The gutless morons are the folks that put Specter in the Chairman position. The Senate is nothing more than a gutless good ol boys club that serves only itself and not the people. Unfortunately Bush joined in the club once again.

By the time Bush's term comes to a close the republicans can forget any hope of expanding their majority.

Do the dums really think that the public is so stupid, that they will forget him being BANNED from speaking at their convention.

And what is it with Bush's campaigning for him last time?

Just my opinion, but I suspect that pre-election Specter and Bush made a pact. Bush will kill Toomey's chances and hand the election to Specter and in return Specter would support the Presidents judicial nominations from a position of power as the chair of the committee. Then immediately after winning Specter let it be known that he was going to be "independant" and Bush had to send the dogs out. Once again, Specter promised to be good and The President backed off and he got the job as chairman. And once again, he is now signalling his intent to ignore his deals.

If my theory is correct, W has been betrayed twice by this clown. I too wonder why his (apparant) duplicity never hurts him!

"But Santorum sinned a great sin when he backed Specter--spitting in the face of pro-life Americans. Rick ought to be opposed in the next primary by Toomey."

Simple penance.

Great post, btw.

deserves humiliation?

Perhaps more something like . . .

--ran through the manure spreader backwards;
--dunked in a vat of vinegar;
--paraded clothed only in pig poop up and down all the main streets of Washington DC and Philadelphia;

--placed in stocks on the Wash Mall with buckets of tomatoes and rotten eggs nearby.
--forced to sleep with Shrillery for a month;

--forced to listen to Howard Dean screaming every waking hour for a week;
--forced to ride with SCUBA-TEDDY over every bridge in Mass. late at night;

--forced to stand face to face with Boxerface in a standing room only busride from Maine to San Diego;
--forced to carry Shrillery's closet FBI files around in circles in a certain Washington park for an hour late at night every night for a month;

--Forced to hold the phone to Billdo's ear and mouth while Billdo, in his new UN chief job is occupied with assorted interns;
--Forced to be the photographer for Reno and Shrillery's exercises;

--Forced to give all his campaign donations to the most conservative contenders for Senate races in the most important races.
--Forced to wear a sandwich board whenever he appears in public saying: I'M A LIBERAL IDIOT SEEKING TO DESTROY OUR REPUBLIC. I'M A TRAITOR deserving only exile to a treeless guano coated, deserted isle off the Southern coast of Chile.

. . .
