Can anyone help me find information on whether there is a connection between Newt Gingrich and the Sundance Film Festival? I have a nephew who is an actor who has been telling anyone who will listen that New Gingrich has taken over the board of the Sundance Film Festival (and is being joined by Jerry Falwell). He says that all new filmakers, and any gay themed movies, will be outlawed. According to him this is proof that the Vast Right Wing conspiracy is now trying to take over the Film Industy, just like Roger Ailes and Fox are trying to take over the news media. I'd love to debate him on this, but have unfortunately been unable to get any information on this subject. I had to sit silently on Saturday as he spouted this info as gospel truth at a gathering including Doctors, Judges and others who took his word for it as an expert since he is a working actor in films and TV.
Does anyone have any info on this to help me debate him! Love him dearly but would love to set him straight if this is untrue! Thanks!
You can also check snopes.com but if you use a search engine and can't find a connection between your tinfoil terms then guess what? It probably isn't a real issue. Try to be the peacemaker in your family and just whack your nephew in the head with a cast-iron skillet. That will settle the debate.
Let that be a lesson to you :-) Heck, you live in SF, just go downtown and ask one of the residents. Better yet, tell them it's true then DU will burn up their bandwidth with a similar thread.

Thanks for the tip on snopes.com. I wasn't familiar with them, and have sent them an inquiry. I figure I'll wait till I hear something, and THEN will show it to my nephew shortly before I hit him on the head with a cast iron skillet.

Actually he's a good kid, and I want to get him the right info before he spreads this around anymore. He actually is a working actor with an agent and everything. He's been in a few movies and commercials, and is in a movie being released in late summer in which he's one of 4 leads. (On the Movie Poster and all!) It's being released by a major distributor and into real theaters and everything. He is currently working on a movie where he is the 2nd lead.
I think he's just repeating what he heard, and I'd really like to let him know it's BS.
